Iran declared war on the United States. Technically we are at war with Iran.
Such measures have zero practical or constitutional effect. Its just more b s
“to make America look weak and to attempt to weaken President Trump.”
Really? Did FDR look “weak” because he went before Congress after Pearl Harbor and asked Congress to declare war, before he launched our military response? On this occasion - unlike on many others - FDR was abiding by the Constitution.
VETO - End of story.
But thanks for WASTING even more time in the Swamp!
Well shut my mouth...
“Iran declared war on the United States. Technically we are at war with Iran.”
Japan committed an act of war on Dec 7. FDR still went before Congress and asked for a declaration of war against Japan. Back then, the Constitution was still revered.
Amen! I call him Jerry Moron.
All of this is a silly trifle. Trump’s not marching us off to war, and it’s goofy to pretend he is. He’s the anti-war president.
The Constitution gives the power to launch war with Congress, not the President.
The Constitution gives the power to Declare War. From the beginning, the Founders understood that to be a different thing from making war when we are attacked or even merely threatened - which the Executive can do without a Declaration. (See discussions on war against the Barbary Pirates).
If we wanted to simply take Mexico, for example, that would require a Congressional Declaration of War. If Mexico was deemed a threat to the US by such things as massing troops on the border, or local Mexican militias conducting raids across the border, responding to those by invading into Mexico would not require any such declaration.
Ww2 was the last declared war we were in.
That’s right, because the Constitution has been whittled away in the years since. our politicians ignore most parts of the Constitution, why should it be different with the Constitution’s requirement that launching war is the authority of Congress, not the president ? The one difference here is that many “conservatives” are ok with ignoring this part of the Constitution.
The usual suspects.
These same senators would never vote to limit Obama to anything.
Mitch, get rid of these cowards.
Have we declared a war since WWII? Don’t think so. Oh, and I was told Nam was a police action. Since I got my butt nearly blown off there and spent four months in the hospital, I thought it was a war, but later found out it was only a police action. I guess I was doing my part of the policing in the southside of Chicago!!!
Really? Did FDR look weak because he went before Congress after Pearl Harbor and asked Congress to declare war, before he launched our military response?
FDR would certainly have looked weak if instead of declaring war, Congress had passed a resolution barring FDR from action. There are not only two options here.
So Romney voted No!
Todd Young just got an ear full from me. I don’t care that it was a “resolution”.
Just the usual RINOs. Romney is DS. There is a difference!
WWG1WGA!
Arizona behaved. Nice to see.
You forgot Tom Cotton. I believe he also voted for the bill.
You do know the US Navy sank a Japanese sub shortly before the bombs started dropping on Pearl Harbor, right? The Constitution forbids the president from declaring war but it does allow him to initiate military action.
