U.S. District Court Judge Carlos Murguia will resign from the bench effective April 1, 2020.
In a resignation letter addressed to President Trump, Murguia wrote, “I have been honored to serve in this position since 1999, and my tenure on the Court has been the highlight of my professional life. In recent months, it has become clear that I can no longer effectively serve the Court in this capacity.”
Murguia, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, was publicly reprimanded Sept. 30, 2019, by the Judicial Council of the Tenth Circuit.
The Council found that Murguia “gave preferential treatment and unwanted attention” to female court employees, who often felt hesitant to confront or report the behavior because of his standing as a federal judge.
Murguia tendered his resignation “with a heavy heart and profound apologies, out of respect for the federal judiciary, my colleagues, my community and — most importantly — my family,” according to his resignation letter.
He was appointed to the bench by former President Bill Clinton and was the first Latino to serve on the federal judiciary in Kansas.
Murguia said he will assist with the transition between now and April 1. His cases immediately are being reassigned to other district court judges, according to Chief Judge Julie A. Robinson.
Murguia resignation means he’s no longer eligible for a pension or retirement benefits.

Murguia, joined the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, they became the first brother and sister to serve on the United States federal bench. Mary Murguia has since been elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Another sister, Janet Murguía, is a noted civil rights leader who currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Council of La Raza.

Seriously, I had a low-life neighbor once who couldn’t drive because of DUI, but said he did well at AA meetings.

That's actually true. My nephew lived next to half-way house/rehabilitation center for female drug offenders. He couldn't walk outside without one of them hollering at him or trying to chat him up. Knowing him, I'm sure he hooked up with a couple of them. Some of them were actually good looking. Pretty good deal, I suppose, if you were just looking for an easy one night stand and didn't worry about what you might catch...

Just make sure you use a fake name, rental car, motel and don’t leave your money or id around for them to find - you’ll be fine!

I find it odd that a judge loses their vested pension/retirement if they leave their position before they hit retirement age.
We need some pick-up lines for AA meetings. Like:
“You’ve already hit rock bottom, so hooking up with me can’t make things any worse...”
or
“I’m going to need to make a lot of amends for all the naughty things I could do with you...”
Same in the California state system, though they do get the contributions back with interest
