Since I see nothing existing on that map, I assume this is good?

Cartels also profit from human trafficking for sex purposes, illegal immigrants seeking a free ride on our welfare system, as well as for foreign agents and terrorists. They also extort a percentage from legal trade crossing the border - and from purely domestic Mexican businesses, like fuel. Drugs are just one product line/profit center for them.\

Yes, I know. But, we CAN tackle one problem at a time and drugs are a good place to start.

As for the illegals getting welfare? NO MORE. NOT A CHANCE. They won't starve since there will always be help for them...here, by the bleeding hearts, and there by the people who sent them.

You hit the nail on the head: EXTORT.
So WHY the hell are we putting up with the drug trade?

What I’d like to know is where are the gun towers, where are the land mines, and where are the dogs kept. Oh. Stupid me.

Article states the so-called “enforcement zone” is approx. 150 feet from the river to the fence. It seems like quite a distance? Only saw pics/videos of “Fisher Wall” and it appears to have but 50 feet or so between Wall and river. Is this your take on the distance or maybe the photos distorted the actual distance of the Fisher Wall?

If Americans DIDN'T HAVE TO HAVE their drugs there would be NO CARTEL to fear.

Drugs aren't the only product the cartels deal in. They deal in arms, human trafficking, prostitution, kidnapping, murder, you name it. If there is money in it they will do it.

“Since I see nothing existing on that map, I assume this is good?”

This is all just green field - no previous barrier at all exists there, except the river.

Along with this excellent barrier, comes a convenient high speed, all weather access road all along the length. Currently, there is a hodgepodge of private lots, some of which do not allow Border Patrol access, or often provide very difficult or non-existent access to the river by Border patrol Officers from land. Dense vegetation and no roads.

With the barrier and road, also comes a 150 foot wide cleared observation area, under persistent observation by cameras and sensors, and with active alarm systems.

The whole “Wall System” package engineered for each segment of the border, is designed to bring that segment under full operational control.

It is a dramatic capability that is coming - top of the line stuff, everything that Border Patrol wanted. Local crime rates are going to plummet, and local property values will likely head on a multi-year tear.

“So WHY the hell are we putting up with the drug trade?”

Actually, we have made the drug trade illegal.

Why do we put up with murder? We don’t. We have made it illegal as well. Crime still happens, because perfect enforcement and prevention do not exist.

The enforcement zone for the Fisher (Private) river wall near Donna, Texas, is on the American side of the barrier, rather than the river side. They cleared 150 feet in from the barrier, as well as clearing and grading the river bank itself.

I know all this. I lived in Mexico City for two years when I was young...in my late 20's. I know ALL ABOUT their corruption. No lessons needed.

We also have human trafficking, prostitution etc. But, they aren't government sponsored like they are there.

The relatively FEW wealthy families in those countries control ALL the:

banks, that is, all the money,

politics, taken right from their own ranks

military [generales], taken right from their own ranks and

police [jefes].

1. I know.
2. I know that too but it doesn't seem to be enough.

The answer is in our own mirror. If there were no MARKET here for drugs, the suppliers would be out of business mañana or sooner

Solution #1 Legalize drugs.
Solution #2 Kill all the addicts.

Pick one.

The main thing that Fisher did with the river bank, in its project near Donna Texas, is grade it on a 1 to 5 slope, and seed it with bermuda grass. The wall itself is then set in where the base will be 8 feet above the normal high water mark.

The slope and seeding will control erosion, but is also designed to allow the Border Patrol Maritime units to run their boats right up on the shore for rapid deployment.

Border towns have always been rough. One of my earliest recollections as a teenager was a Federale with a Thompson slung over his shoulder down in Ojinaga.

“IF DUMBASS AMERICANS”.There fixed it for you.Seeing that we cant fix dumbass Americans we need to build a wall so the rest of us dont suffer from the stupidity of said Americans. It wont stop it but it will certainly slow it down significantly.

How many miles is that?

And isn’t that Rio Grande all the way? Do they put it on the bank of the river?

Yeah, that was East Berlin. Saw it first hand in 1962 as a 15 year old. Both sides. All the convincing I needed for future consideration.😮
