It’s only the Rio Grande on our side—from the deepest part of the channel to the Texas bank of the river. The Mexican half of the river is the Rio Bravo.
Wonder how far from the bank that they put the wall...feet, yards, miles???
Thanks.
So you’re saying WE may not be the problem?
Recently there was a thread on FR about a stretch where the fence was going to be placed far, far from the river, (miles IIRC) kind of a shortcut to avoid a bunch of switchbacks.
I took it with a grain of salt, as it seemed more like fake news than something based in reality.
Is this that stretch? (assuming you know what I’m talking about)

They are both stupid options.
Why don't you just go and pick your nose.
The Wall will slow down the drugs. That is for sure.
However, YOUNG MEN won't be stopped by a mere wall. Somehow they will get in.
But, their women, children and oldsters won't get in. The young men are hampered by their own family ties.
There really ISN'T a solution. Americans are already hooked on drugs. They need something to feel better about themselves and life.
Having a deep faith in our Lord and acting on THAT would be the best solution but I seriously doubt that Americans would take to that. TOO many rules in religion. Americans want to do what they want to do when they want to do it and how they want to do it = spoiled rotten.
No, I am NOT saying that and if you can't figure it out then go to refrigerator, pull out a beer and go sit on the porch.
OR
Pull off a chaw of tobacco. Pick your nose. Scratch your beard and cogitate a while on the infinity of the cosmos.
:O)
Maybe it was all the shouting that got me on the wrong path.
MY,my,what a nasty li’l troll. Since you have nothing to contribute, you get all stompy feet.
If we protected our borders with bullets and bombs as well as we protected our allies borders, there would be no issue.
Lol. Maybe if I had to answer the question only ONCE I wouldn’t have to “raise my voice.”
What in the world are "stompy feet"?
As for you usage of the word "troll," YOU opened that door so it must be what you are.
So what happened in August 2016 to bring you to FR? Was that your 18th birthday?
This project is for 69 more miles.
It is paid for with the money that Congress directly appropriated for building border wall in 2020. According to this report, they intend to stay closer to the river bank , than has been the case further South, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
In those low lying areas (like East of McAllen, Texas), a good bit of border wall is being built along the flood control levees, which can be a mile or more inland from the river bank.
“Recently there was a thread on FR about a stretch where the fence was going to be placed far, far from the river, (miles IIRC)”
That kind of thing has happened, downriver in the Rio Grande Valley Sector. This 69 miles on the map just released though, seems to hug the river more closely.
The problem is with flooding in low lying areas, that are subject to hurricanes from the Gulf of Mexico. The border barrier has to be built along the right of way for the flood control levees, mainly because of flood issues. The community gets a greatly strengthened levee, upgraded from earthen to massive reinforced concrete, but some land is left on the South side of the barrier - because the elevation contours that the levee follows, are different from the banks of the shifting river.
Sometimes big swathes of low-lying land are left on the South side. Most is farmland (which farmers can access through keypad controlled gates with cameras watching), or Nature Preserve, but homes and businesses can be on the wrong side as well.
The bottom line is that the Government will buy out people on the South side, or pay them for their inconvenience and lost property value.
