Stone judge under pressure over calls for new trial

The judge in Roger Stone's case is under pressure as she considers whether to grant President Trump's longtime associate a new trial based on allegations of juror bias.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, an Obama appointee whose ruling is expected soon, is facing a concerted campaign from Trump and his media allies who claim that Stone’s case was prejudiced by politics.

This new chapter in Stone’s legal saga concerns whether the jury forewoman’s failure to disclose her opposition to Trump tainted Stone’s guilty verdict. Stone's lawyers say that entitles the 67-year-old right-wing provocateur to a fresh trial.

Jackson held a hearing on Stone’s motion for a new trial on Tuesday, in which she limited public access to protect the privacy of the jurors. But even as Jackson conducted the hearing, Trump again took to Twitter to weigh in on the proceedings.

Barr is the best AG in my memory and my confidence in his judgment grows over time.

The thing you have to consider, if a re-trial is granted....whole different prosecutor team, defense team with major aim of knowing every single juror in the group, but with with the same judge.

All you need is one strong jury member who is GOP and refuses to bend....making this a mistrial. Barr could step in at this point and say it’s not worth the money to pursue this.

Freakin’ b*tch issues a gag order last year on everyone involved in the case, and then uses the courtroom to air her own hateful, biased speech. She’s a hypocrite.

The new prosecutors could petition the court to throw this out, dismiss it with prejudice. They could refer charges and disciplinary action against the resigned prosecutors. They should do both. That should be within Barr’s authority.

I heard Trump once say that that he likes to “let things stew for a while”.

Could be he is giving his opponents rope by not showing any public signs of real push back - holding back Barr and maybe L.Graham/senate until the opportune time and hitting them with dozens of investigations - bam, bam, bam, bam!

Let’s see, support and endorse the decisions and judgment of Bill Barr, who has demonstrated to be a truly great AG; or, take the recommendations of the hundreds of wanna be’s out there who have no experience and have no access to the information available to the AG. What to do, what to do?

“Barr is the best AG in my memory”

That is not building confidence in me right now. His predecessors didn’t set the bar much above ankle height.

I am guided by the behavior of our enemies, the Commies, the Democrats, and the Deep State. They hate Barr and are pulling out all of the stops to destroy him and eliminate this threat to their criminal enterprise. That tells me the he’s the right guy.

"is facing a concerted campaign from Trump and his media allies who claim that Stone’s case was prejudiced by politics."

"Claim?" The lady's own social media posts prove beyond reasonable doubt that she had bias.

Bagpipes are a priority. In all honesty it occurred to me long ago the deal Barr made was Mueller goes away if everybody skates. Barr is doing his best to uphold his end of the deal..

I am constantly amazed that these people have neighbors who don’t seem to know who they are.

How? Trial already held and verdict given...what can Barr do to undo that?

They're at least going through the motions of pretending to review this case.

They don't have a choice. The defense made the motion and the judge held the hearing. She's not going to grant a new trial and while the defense may use the juror as grounds for their appeal it'll be a couple of years before that process works its way through.

Trump should pardon him.

Barr could stop this farce tomorrow before breakfast if he wanted to.

How? The Attorney General has no say over what the Judiciary Branch does.

Yep. I had the same reaction that far into the article.

After decades of reading their pap, things like that stick out in literary fluorescent orange for me.

It is why I simply stopped reading them or watching them decades ago.

“They hate Barr and are pulling out all of the stops to destroy him and eliminate this threat to their criminal enterprise.”

They did the same to Sessions. He went fetal. Barr hasn’t so far. But the lack of concrete results is extremely disturbing.

She can do as she pleases and then be wiped out on appeal

Meanwhile, stone is not in jail

Dems hate Trump and any AG he has.

Barr has been AG for over 1 year. Criminal Democrats are free as birds and Trump supporters continue to be prosecuted by Barr’s DOJ. That tells me Barr is not the right guy.

She’s making up her mind does she want to give in and grant a new trial, or get gobsmacked on appeal and take a major hit to her career to appease the Deep Staters?

I think it could go either way frankly.

The moment Amy Berman Jackson remanded Paul Manafort to solitary confinement while he was merely being tried for a long past process crime earned her a prominent spot in Fidel Castro’s totalitarian hall of fame. This woman is not a servant of justice nor is she a student of the law. She is an ideologue of the nth degree. The Deep State assigned her a mission to make Trump look as bad as possible and her props were Manafort and Stone. She wasn’t about to let a small thing like blind justice get in her way.

Following the FBI’s predawn raid on Roger Stone and his deaf wife while using a score of armed to the teeth agents, Director of the FBI, Chris Wray, should have been summoned to the Oval Office and made to explain (in front of Fox News cameras, ala CNN’s presence at the Stone raid) why he allowed his agents to be used in such a blatant over-kill manner, thus grossly wasting valuable taxpayer resources for no rational reason whatsoever.

After his feeble attempt to explain that his department always follows the book, President Trump should have terminated Wray on national tv. He should have instructed him not to return to his office since all his personal belongings were being delivered to the front door of his home, and no strong letter would be forthcoming.

Then he should have named Trey Gowdy to replace Wray. The water level in the swamp would be much lower by now.
