British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his partner Carrie Symonds are engaged and expecting a baby in early summer, according to multiple reports Saturday.

Johnson, 55, and Symonds, 31, became the first unmarried couple to occupy Downing Street when they moved in last July. Symonds is also the youngest partner of a prime minister in 174 years, according to BBC News.

In a post on her private Instagram account, Symonds gushed: “Many of you already know but for my friends that still don’t, we got engaged at the end of last year… and we’ve got a baby hatching early summer. Feel incredibly blessed,” the BBC report said.

Julius Caesar had a son with Cleopatra out of wedlock - a little over 2000 years ago.

Those were not elected and before the modern age, including media.

Technology has changed, but people are the same.

It happened quite a bit back in the day when monarchs called the shots. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, for example, acknowledged multiple illegitimate children. Some were given top jobs, like Margaret of Parma who was made governor of the Netherlands, and Don Juan of Austria who led the Christian forces against the Turks at Lepanto.

Obviously, their marital status is not ideal, but I actually think it’s kind of cool and life-affirming to see a British PM fathering a child. Anyone remember a few years back when someone pointed out that virtually all of the European leaders (Merkel, Macron et al) were childless?

Johnson is 24 years older than Symonds. In all fairness to Macron we must proclaim Johnson’s partner has daddy issues.

Sort of like Melania, then? Careful in accusing people, because you don’t know.

Different strokes for different folks. Sure, one might infer that she's into significantly older men, but it's equally possible that she's into powerful men. As Kissinger once said, “Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.” DJT is also 24 years older than Melania.

Former President of France Francois Hollande and fellow socialist Segolene Royal shacked up for years, and they had children together.

There are other world leaders with children out of wedlock, the new Prime Minister of Finland is an unwed mother. I'm too lazy to look it up but I'm sure there are others, especially among the northern european countries where most don't bother to get married any more.

Getting worked up about a 24 year age difference seems to be a modern thing, until the modern era and the feminist movement few people would have batted an eye at an age difference like that.

There’s no moral or legal prohibition and against the two choosing to be with each other. They’re planning on marrying and giving the child two parents, and that’s more respectable than what most other people have been doing.

Look at the prospects for the very few decent, smart, physically fit young women who want to marry and have children. Look at the people in general around us. Hideous.
