OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The death toll from COVID-19 jumped to 11 on Thursday with news that the passing of a 90-year-old woman was also linked to coronavirus. The update came a few hours after Gov. Jay Inslee said a state emergency declaration he issued will compel insurers to waive testing costs for those without their own private health care insurance.
Inslee and Snohomish County officials provided additional details on how their agencies are responding in the wake of a deadly coronavirus that is now linked to the deaths of 11 people and 70 total cases reported across the state.
At 2 p.m., several people with loved ones who received care from Life Care Center in Kirkland, the local epicenter for most of the COVID-19 cases in Washington, spoke out about the crisis.
During a Thursday morning press conference, state officials said:
The statewide death toll stands at 10, though it's now 11 as King County announced Thursday afternoon a new death in the county -- previously-reported case of a woman in her 90s being treated at EvergreenHealth Hospital.
70 cases statewide are now linked to COVID-19, up from 39 reported cases on Wednesday.
51 of those cases are in King County and 18 are in Snohomish County and one in Grant County.

Yeah the older set in this country need our prayers right now for sure.
And those with other conditions.
That book is a work of fiction.
Rainman here, 57, and I live smack dab in the middle of all the hospitals where cases are being treated. As I posted in another thread, they have a ridiculously high bar to even get tested. I was sick earlier in the week, after having been in the critical care unit of Valley, where one of the Corona victims was being treated 2 doors away. They refused to test me after I had been sick 3 days. It has passed now, but I was getting worried there for a while. Their bar for testing was either I had to have visited Life Center, or I had to have been within 6 feet of a known patient and since I was 20 feet away it did not qualify. BTW, Holyscroller is also here she has not posted for years, but she is my mother, and the reason I was at Valley. We are expecting her to pass soon.
Coronavirus is a family of viruses, even if this one is being called coronavirus. They have common characteristics that makes them a family. It does not mean this particular strain is subject to Lysol.
We’re in King County. Employer told everybody who can must work from home. I was already doing so due to medical issues, so I definitely don’t want to do battle with this virus. We have enough supplies to last a few weeks in isolation, but this outbreak may be a longer haul than that...
I live in Seattle and have two relatives recovering from illnesses right now. My worst case is them getting this.
There’s speculation that coronavirus may have already gone through our office. There was a nasty respiratory illness last month. We had folks who had recently visited China there. My coworker said the symptoms matched well with COVID-19. Glad I wasn’t there!
Google maps says I can drive to that plagued nursing home in 32 minutes.
I have been around a lot of people in the last few weeks.
People from between here and there.
Im gonna die!
Oh well, every body gotta die a sumpin.
Sister works in downtown Seattle - they just switched to working from home - as did my brother in law’s Boeing job.
I keep hearing this is the best thing we can do:

Above is a link - Lysol does work against this virus. Like most products, it probably helps to destroy the envelope surrounding the actual virus - and the envelopes are all similar to a certain degree.
The coronavirus family has a lipid envelope. There are some cleansers out there that only work on viruses with a non-lipid envelope.
I’m here in King County and over 60. I had a sinus infection with antibiotics. Sinus infection mostly over by still have sinus drip. I get these every year.
Our condition in King County with the deaths from the infected assisted living center is skewing all the statistics. Someone infected the center and we had the majority of the nation’s deaths but the thing is not sweeping the nation as statistics show.
We had ten deaths from one contaminated situation. The rest of King County and the rest of the nation is not dying from this.
Still, probably wise to avoid crowd events, wash hands, take vitamins. It would be nice if King County could come up with an early sunny spring instead of the belated one we had last year.
We live 2.6 miles from the Life Care nursing home, and closer to the hospital. My wife was taking care of somebody at the hospital the same week that the first guy died. Same floor.
My son works in Seattle. The company he works for does catering. Everyone has cancelled. He lost that job. Still has another one. For now. Hopefully I am wrong and this will all blow over. But I don’t think so.
My wife said today “It’s been less than a week - but I am so over this already!”
Being able to do Zumba is probably not as important as a strong immune system.
Yeah - this past day and a half of sunshine did not do much against this virus, and not much for my mood either.
Yes, the Life Care center does skew the numbers now - but just like any cluster of infections, it starts somewhere and then spreads. And we are behind the curve on this one. One of the “new” Covid-19 deaths is a woman from the center - but she died some time ago - two weeks ago maybe? At Harborview. But they determined now that she had CV, so added her to the list.
And who knows what sort of precautions they took for infectious disease. Some elderly person with trouble breathing is probably a pretty common thing.
I am sorry about your boy and the job.
I will pray that you guys stay protected from this virus and that it moves on as quickly as possible.
I don’t understand pandemics. This virus is now out in the world. When and how does it stop being a threat?
A lot of people are surviving and many are already better but the numbers of ill and deceased are gonna add up
I will tell my aunt that doug from upland on FR said that :)
I’m sure she’ll consider it invaluable :)
Understand that. But gotta wonder if it was on some globalist bastard’s “Book-of-the-Month Club” list. Either that or Koonz was a psychic to pick 2020 and the Wuhan connection!
Yes we are paying attention! I am 72 and have advance stage of COPD. I am really getting nervous!
Thanks for the kind remarks. Who knows how long it will last. I recall the doctors in Hong Kong that did some modeling and gave a press conference early in February. IIRC they thought it would peak in Whuhan the middle of March. But then the other nearby cities (five?) would peak at two week intervals after that.
So if I’m recalling things accurately - they thought it would peak at about 6 weeks from when things started rolling in THAT area. So the effects on the USA (or China) will last for awhile. They also predicted much higher numbers of infected and dead.
Our guys in Los Alamos predicted higher numbers as well. One of the few times that I will go with the model data rather than the “actual” data - which is being provided by the Chinese government.
That book excerpt (not the encircled portions, though) is exactly what people who specialize in researching bio-warfare say. A useful man-made biological agent needs to kill quickly and be non-persistent. This pathogen kills slowly and is persistent, which is the reverse of the characteristics that a bio-weapon could have.
Whats more, it should kill combat age males. Instead it mostly kills the old, which lifts the burden of elder care from their young productive offspring. This might be a desirable characteristic - if they were looking to help reduce the fiscal burden of the Wests national pension and senior medical care plans. And kill off Chinas leaders, because theyre also in the bullseye of the most vulnerable demographic segment for this bug.
You might say that this pathogen must be Made in China, because thats what you get with Chinese corner-cutting - the reverse of what you set out to do. Or you might equally say that this is probably a naturally-occurring bug because it acts just like every other bug out there - preying mostly on old people with pre-existing health problems.
