While the Virginia General Assembly stopped short of passing legislation that gave full-fledged driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, lawmakers did advance a bill that would grant them driving privilege cards.
The Democratic-controlled Virginia General Assembly went into overtime over the weekend, passing a flurry of progressive bills before the 2020 session came to an official end Sunday. Among the legislation voted on by lawmakers was a proposal to allow illegal aliens in the state obtain driving privilege cards.
Lawmakers in the House of Delegates and the state Senate considered two differentproposals earlier in 2020. The lower chamber produced and passed a more liberal bill that would provide the state’s undocumented population with driver’s licenses, while the Senate introduced and passed the more moderate bill granting them driving privilege cards.
Ultimately, the state Senate version proved more palatable for both chambers.
Virginia lawmakers on Saturday passed SB 34, which was introduced by Democratic state Sen. Scott Surovell.
Unlike driver’s licenses that are valid for years at a time, driving privilege cards must be renewed on an annual basis, and the cards would explicitly state that they can’t be used for voting or obtaining federal benefits. Additionally, individuals who wish to obtain these privilege cards are required to file a tax return or be listed as a dependent.
Passage of the bill is a reflection of the state’s newly-minted Democratic majority. For the first time in a generation, the Democratic Party has full control of the Virginia General Assembly, and legislation passed this session certainly reflects that new majority.

Thank God, the many Founding Fathers from Virginia can’t see or know what scurrillous, gutter snake, vermin the citizenry of The Olde Dominion have been electing and permitting to foul and besmirch the mores and honor of that State. And VA has a vet by the name of Daniel Gade running to fill Mark Warner’s senate seat.
His website has no mention of President Trump and he seems to be complaining about EVERYONE in DC just doing absolutely NOTHING for the American citizens.
I don’t know, but I think PRESIDENT TRUMP ALONG WITH HIS SUPPORTING LAWMAKERS are trying and trying to get something done. Daniel Gade should just say he wants to get there to help the ones who are doing something right.
But what do I know.
Holy moly! A while back I considered moving to Lynchburg cause it’s so pretty. But that state’s gone to pot. So to speak.
Why not? they already get everything else free, plus they get away with their crimes by going to a “sanctuary city.”
I’m sure they will all have insurance.
so.....they are given “privileges” while the law-abiding citizens of Virginia have to queue-up waiting for the state to license them?
Fwiw, I have an old classmate who now lives in Alexandria, VA & who tells “our alums” in a mass email that ILLEGAL ALIENS are ROUTINELY allowed to continue driving IF/WHEN the police discover that:
1. They are in the USA illegally,
2. They have no DL and/or car registration card in the vehicle,
3. They have no “proof of insurance”
AND
4. They have outstanding traffic warrants for NOT paying their fines.
