Our Southern Border Is the Polar Opposite of a Quarantine
Townhall.com ^ | March 9, 2020 | Matt Pinsker

Posted on 03/09/2020 11:17:16 AM PDT by Kaslin

One day in the courtroom, while serving as a special prosecutor on the American/Mexican border, I noticed a strange statistical oddity: 100 percent of all the defendants were men.

I queried the US Marshals and was advised that the women’s sector at the detention facility was under strict quarantine because of a chickenpox outbreak. Border Patrol and ICE were working diligently to keep the outbreak under control and provide emergency medical care to the sick, striving to prevent the disease from reaching the greater American public.

We were extremely lucky with the chickenpox outbreak (and incidentally, Border Patrol and ICE —the twin whipping boys of the far-left —deserve an enormous debt of gratitude for protecting all of us from vast numbers of dangerous diseases, often at great personal risk). But in an era where a global coronavirus pandemic seems increasingly probable, it’s critically important to note that the true “statistical oddity” that day in the courtroom wasn’t the gender of the defendants, but the fact that we caught them in the first place. Of every 10 people who cross the border illegally, only three will ever be caught.

It was either the grace of God —or a lucky roll of the dice —that we prevented a larger outbreak. With tens of millions of undocumented migrants spreading all across America, and large communities of “anti-vaxxers” who eschew modern vaccinations, it wouldn’t take much for this powder keg to ignite.

There is a health crisis at the border. Unfortunately, we don’t know how bad it is, because we have absolutely no idea who is coming and going —or where they’re going to go once they get here.

It’s the polar opposite of a quarantine.

Of the thousands of migrants who illegally cross the border into the US each day, many carry third-world diseases, parasites, and other deadly contagions. Sometimes in the courtroom, we’d see defendants with clearly-visible skin conditions. Often, the detainees were wearing masks while coughing blood. This was especially true of the Bangladeshi migrants, of whom we were catching about 20 to 30 per week (Bangladesh has one of the world’s highest rates of tuberculosis).

As a special prosecutor, I had access to defendants’ files, and contagious diseases and parasites were commonplace. Sometimes at the courthouse, an unknown medical condition would emerge, and instead of going forward on the charges, we would transport the illegal alien directly to the hospital for emergency treatment instead.

I always shake hands with prosecutors and defendants in my home state of Virginia. But while working on the border, I learned to avoid physical contact for my own health and safety —and for the health and safety of others. After court each morning (or, sometimes, in between dockets), we would scrub our hands with soap and antibacterial/viral spray. It’s chillingly foreboding, but we were basically taking the exact same precautions that the CDC is now telling us all to take for the Coronavirus.

That’s because life on the border is like always living in the crosshairs of a potential pandemic. All the ingredients are right there: cramped conditions, diseases, zero oversight. It will only take one spark. And when that spark ignites, thousands (or more) Americans will die.

What happens at the border will eventually happen everywhere. That’s how pandemics work; it’s literally what “going viral” means.

A secure border is at the heart of our nation’s health. The proposals of Bernie Sanders and the “open borders” politicians are sowing the seeds of the next pandemic. It’s not a question of if, but when—and how many.

I’m in the 4th (Chuy!)

I had the pleasure of voting for a dead man, because our Congressional candidate died in January. It was fun.

I think they stuck poor Billyboy in Bobby Rush’s seat.

Though I would rather have Rush than Chuy. At least Rush beat Obama that one time.

Which Republican should run against Chuy? I hope someone, who has run for office, will run.

Yeah, his screenname, EternalVigilance,is still here. He posts actively on Facebook.

I'd ask him about his hiatus from FR but my own facebook account has been "permanently disabled" now by the fascist Mark Zuckerberg.

Aside from the 3rd district where its Lipinksi vs. leftist loon Marie Newman on the RAT side and Will Frillone vs. neo-nazi holocaust denier loon Art Jones on the GOP, the wide open GOP race in the 14th district and the Jeanie Ives vs. Jay Kinzler primary in the 6th district, the remaining Illinois districts seem to be pretty sadly uneventful primary contests.

District 1 (my district, black panther Bobby Rush). DIABLO (Democrat In All But Label Only) Jimmie Lee Tillman Jr. was making noises about seeking the GOP nomination again, but didn’t file, so sacrificial lamb and actual Republican Phil White is unopposed in the primary.

District 2: (Jesse Jackson Jr.’s old district) - Theresa Raborn unopposed in GOP primary

District 4: (”Chuy”) No Republican running. “Independent” Ruben Sosa running as a write-in.

District 5: Sacrifical lamb Kimball Ladien unopposed in GOP primary

District 7: Craig Cameron unopposed for GOP nomination

District 8: (Joe Walsh’s old district, redrawn to be safe RAT, somehow people say its Joe’s fault for losing anyway) Joseph Hantsch running as write-in for GOP nomination

District 9 (Comrade Schacowky): Sargis Sangari unopposed for GOP nom.

District 10 (Markkirkland, former home of RINO, Inc.): Val Mukherjee unoppposed for GOP nomination

District 11: Krishna Bansal vs. Rick Laib in GOP primary, I have no idea which of them is better.

DOWNSTATE: Combiners and/or RINOs Mike Bost, Rodney Davis, Adam Kinzinger, and LaThug Jr. ALL unopposed in their primaries. LaThug Jr. is now the “most conservative” Republican Congressman from Illinois. His fan club gloats about that like its a good thing, its more akin to saying Police Academy 3 is “the best” direct to video Police Academy sequel. “Well, they all suck monkey balls, but Police Academy 3: Back In Training, SLIGHTLY less so!”

District 15: Open race for John Shimkus’ safe GOP seat because he is retiring, I have not researched the candidates.

District 17: Primary between Esther Joy King vs. Bill Fawell, I heard Fawell is a loon.

The 5th District has two republican candidates. Tom Hanson is the only conservative, in that race.

In IL-11, a district redrawn to give it a strong Democrat lean (and which is unwinnable for the GOP absent fortuitous circumstances), the GOP primary is, as you stated, Krishna Bansal vs. Rick Laib. Bansal’s platform is fairly Trumpy (https://www.krishnaforcongress.com/platform/), but doesn’t discuss hot-button social issues such as abortion, gay rights or guns; Laib’s joke of a wwebsite does not discuss his stance on the issues.

But even were Laib to be a bit more conserbative than Bansal it would be idiotic to vote for Laib, given that, as of their respective February 26 FEC reports, Bansal had raised nearly $212,000 (and had around $95,000 cash-on-hand) while Laib had raised less than $8,000 and had $2,000 in the bank. Bansal actually might be able to get his message out to voters, whereas Laib isn’t even trying to campaign.

In IL-17, you were spot-on to describe Bill Fawell as a loon, and it would behoove the GOP not to nominate a “9-11 Truther” for a seat in Congress. Besides, Fawell has raised a bit less than $8,000, while his GOP opponent, Army veteran and attorney Esther King, has raised $365,000 (and has over $250,000 cash-on-hand), so this one is a no-brainer as well. And given that King’s issue positions are pretty good (except that she appears to be a bit of a squish on “Dreamers”), one wouldn’t have to hold one’s nose to vote for her over the nutcase: https://www.baltimoresun.com/coronavirus/bs-md-maryland-first-coronavirus-transmission-20200312-ry4vxcsyhvev5keusxznk3etae-story.html

Think Bill Fawell is any relation to the retired Illinois Republican Rep. Harris Fawell?

They’re both from DuPage County, though Bill Fawell lives in Galena (far NW corner of IL). I didn’t realize that Harris Fawell went full deranged nutter and endorsed Zero in 2008.

Bill Fawell claims to be related to the DuPage Fawells: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sj-r.com/news/20180809/illinois-republicans-disown-gop-congressional-candidate-over-conspiracy-theories%3ftemplate=ampart. Of course, Bill Fawell also claims that 9-11 was an inside job, so I’m not going to take his statements at face value.

We have a guy in the 4th, he’s just dead that’s all. Given the choice of leaving it blank or not, I voted for him......

The party can name a replacement at a later date I think. We’ve had no one run before and the party slated a candidate.

To answer Phil’s question as to who, I’ll take any Republican that is currently alive and likely to stay that way. Preferably with a Spanish surname. We should be running Hispanic candidates in Hispanic majority districts. The right name is the difference between 20% and 30%.

Seems we’re down a Ward committeeman in my ward, no one on the ballot.

Kinzler has a fraction of Ives’ money, I haven’t been taking him seriously, what’s his deal, RINO?

No one (on the ballot) in the 8th, what a sad reflection on that district (though the lines are not what they were when Phil Crane had it, still, in 1998 thus would have been a safe seat)

Fawell was the only Republican to run in the 17th last time, needless to say he got his ass kicked by Bustos. I was disgusted to see him nominated, not as bad as the Nazi in CD 3 but almost. It’s unlikely but if Trump carries the district again and ticket splitting is low.......we need a sane candidate for a winnable seat.

Oh yes, the whore.

Then there is also the prostitute Berner running against her. ;-D

Not a safe seat unfortunately, it would be if the hooker was nominated.

Impy, do you want to be the ward committeeman? If so, please contact Chairman Morrison and ask him to appoint you.

No, Kinzler isn’t a RINO. I worked for his last congressional campaign (Dec. 2015-March ‘16). He’s pro-life, pro-gun rights, anti-illegal alien, pro-tax cuts, and pro-spending cuts. He and Ives agree about 95% of the time.

That could be a problem, low-information voters could vote for screwball Bill Fawell in the primary because of "name ID"... they remember supporting Harris Fawell for years, and thinking he's Harris Fawell's son or something.

King spent $253,000 through Feb. 26 and had $102,000 cash-on-hand (I conflated those numbers in my earlier post), while Fawell has spent like $5,000 and has $2,000 in the bank, so hopefully King’s campaign will educate GOP primary voters in IL-17 enough that they know which one is the real Republican candidate and which one is the kook with no chance at all.

Ives is pretty obviously the anti-Combiner candidate. Can Kinzler claim the same ?
