talked to my counterparts who make toilet paper and there is plenty of supply-they are making their sales numbers!-

The next two months those numbers will tank.

“From the 1960’s Corporate America was taken over by a lot of Leftists. They took over the Universities and they populated top corporate positions. Many of them have ZERO common sense.”

Yes, indeed. Grew over decades, like a cancer. Now, it’s festering sores are unavoidably seen. Bernie is a large red pustule.

“I told an exhausted older cashier I know that the good part is in a few weeks nobody will be there as they have to eat all the food they stockpiled...”

Yep, people have volume limits as to what they can store regarding frozen and refrigerated foods, so once they’re topped off, things will likely get back to ‘normal’ for those items.

For other items...tougher to predict, may be a long time before people get tired of filling up their bedrooms and feeling like preppers.

“Every morning when the stores open the shelves will be restocked.”

Maybe. That hasn’t been the case with Sams. They already had limited hours and I’ve been there minutes after they open, using our business account. Still no toilet paper (not that I would have bought any more). Non-perishable foods were also quite light, not packed to the ceiling as usual.

In other words the upstream impacts are still there, but yes, they ‘should’ get some stocking done overnight now, rather than have to navigate the 24/7 mobs.

They can’t maintain the stock, is the real reason. Why keep the store open all night when they are out of stock. 8>)

I am a CAP2 associate at the Portage MI Walmart and we had a short meeting about this last night. The past week has been absolute hell and the store and backroom are complete disasters. The daily GM truck which averages 2300-2400 cases, has been increased to 3000-3300 cases for the past week. As a result, there are about 100 pallets of product in the back which have not been stocked.

The change of hours is an attempt to restock and clean the store quicker. Also, all associates will be offered as much overtime that they want and the minors are now authorized to work 40 hours per week since all Michigan schools are closed. There simply aren’t enough employees at the store to keep up with the demand and this will help to rectify the situation.

Most importantly though and Walmart will never admit this publicly, is that many customers are complete a-holes. Some of them waste so much of the associates’ time that they can’t restock the shelves in a timely manner. Stocking and cleaning the store while it is closed can increase efficiency by a good 25%.

"What’s that even supposed to accomplish?"

More time to restock shelves. My local HEB store did the same.

The local Walmart stopped the free curbside order pickup service because everybody and their Mother started using it because of the Coronavirus scare. They were overwhelmed.

Every store is cutting hours. Stores are closing early because of it. I just heard that someone stole a roll of Toilet paper from the women’s room of a Target last night. We were having dinner at a Ford Garage and we overheard the people next table from us about hearing a manager of Target saying that.

Most of the WalMart stores here in Tampa are 24/7, but one near the ghetto is 6-11. That store is the worst... You might find clothes in the freezer case, frozen foods in the hardware and books in the clothing area.

In 1993, I was employed at a Walmart in Connecticut. I loved it, but the 10% of customers will morons. If they didn’t like something after they had it in their cart, they drop it wherever they are. The Walmart didn’t have a grocery area, but I seen bikes in the electronics, dresses in the boys department, auto batteries in sporting goods... Amazed at some people...

Same with the Charleston SC WMs. A few few months ago, a couple of former 24 hr stores went to night closings. Once the clouds clear and the panic is over, watch how many locations go back to 24 hrs. Probably less than before.
