1500 deaths in a country of 60 million...a healthcare system that is paralyzed over 17,000 cases, not all of them serious or requiring intense care.

No the correct statistical comparison is 1500 deaths in a country that has had 17000 cases. Almost 8 percent mortality.

IF they can keep up with demand the crazed shopping may subside in a week or two.
People, even the one’s that are in some kind of trance, will slowly start to realize the stores are not going to completely run out of TP and Pasta.
Idiots.

The workers can’t restock the shelves while the aisles are full

Maybe divide the store in quarters and service one section at a time? For the emergency service personnel, who are given off at staggered times, this isn't good. But given the mindset of today's CEOs, all too typical. We're a long way from the days of Sam Walton.

There is no “one section at a time” (though your idea is a good one); the same sections are stripped bare (frozen/refrigerated, produce, canned goods, paper products), while others have full shelves and no customers in the aisles (pet food, hardware). The traffic both outside in inside these stores is growing incredibly.

I told an exhausted older cashier I know that the good part is in a few weeks nobody will be there as they have to eat all the food they stockpiled...

“Maybe divide the store in quarters and service one section at a time?”

That’s not a good idea at this time because people are on the verge of being democratic..i mean, on the verge of being a mob...Some are already acting like mobs. They would not respect any borders...i mean perimeters set up by the store.

Unless stores like Wal-mart want to hire armed gaurds?

Was at Wally-World last night. Workers were moving in pallets of replenishing food items into the aisles of the grocery dept. and shoppers were picking items off the pallets, disrupting-distracting the restocking of shelves by the workers. I believe this is the reasoning.

17,000 KNOWN cases. If that many people have tested positive, there are probably 100,000 (or more) others that carry it but haven’t been tested.

That would bring the fatality rate down considerably.

Not sure if you read the post up thread from the Walmart employee, but it goes to my point that today’s CEOs are mostly incompetent. If the average worker is totally out of the loop, I’d bet anyone a cheap pair of Chinese pajamas that the idea is a stinker. After watching and listening to our politicians & CEOs over the last few weeks, I’m not sure how any other conclusion can be reached. I’m glad I saw this fustercluck coming weeks ago and took the time to prepared myself & family. This was never the same as the flu.

I’m in Jacksonville and several years ago a Walmart less than a mile from me used to be open 24 hours. Then this happened:

It’s been 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. ever since.

It’s also an attempt to quell the panic over empty shelves. Every morning when the stores open the shelves will be restocked.

Hopefully that helps stop the monkey see, monkey do panic buying that adds to the fear.

That’s were the suspension of hours of service regulations for truck drivers will make the difference. More deliveries.

Maybe give them a chance to stock shelves with items the idiots are buying out and give folks who are just running low on TP or bathroom cleaner to get a shot at the products...

Is your store one where the overnight stocking was stopped? Do they plan on moving people to overnight now?

I think they may be preparing for a reduced workforce. People stay home because no school or day care, fear,........,whatever. They may think they won’t be able to sustain 27/7. Just a guess.
