“Give businesses where humans congregate time to decontaminate.”

That actually makes sense, not just with the current irrational panic, but in general. Maybe even pump some cool fresh air through the place while it’s closed.

I have no idea how you can’t see the obvious. The same number of people will shop during the open hours, so rather than reducing crowds, the store will become more crowded during open hours.

Actually it’s quite likely they can ventilate with 100% outside air, and do when conditions are right.

“they can stock the shelves, people don’t realize how long that takes”

If they’d spend more time simply stocking shelves instead of MOVING EVERYTHING every few weeks, they could save some time and salary. Nothing to do with THE EVIL VIRUS, I know — just a pet peeve. You just get accustomed to where things are and then they re-arrange everything.

You didn’t read the other posts that said those people normally shopping overnight would be there during the daytime hours, thus increasing the size of crowds interacting? And that would increase risk, rather than decrease it?

They are not reducing the hours for employees. They have already addressed that issue. They need the time to restock without everyone getting in the way. Haven’t you seen the videos of people mobbing the stockers trying to bring out water and toilet paper?

“Haven’t you seen the videos of people mobbing the stockers trying to bring out water and toilet paper?”

We were told that at our Walmart the TP didn’t even get as far as the stockers. Hordes of people mobbed the truck out back before the TP could be offloaded. Insanity. (Thank you, MSM!)

So that makes me a lemming? Give they stores time to clean up after the zombie onslaught every day.

https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/03/13/coronavirus-colorado-italy-covid-19/

The stories are way too similar.

1500 deaths in a country of 60 million...a healthcare system that is paralyzed over 17,000 cases, not all of them serious or requiring intense care.
And they will not treat those most likely to die: the elderly, hence sending their rates UP.

I just can’t buy all this.

Call it ‘suspending trading’ like the stock market. It gives the store some to clean, to assess, and to give employees some breathing room to do their job.

We are in the information age... society is still adjusting to real time information... that said Italy is the nursing home of the EU and dirty to boot.

I usually stop at Walmart on my way to work around 2AM. This starts Sunday night/Monday morning. I was able to go this morning, but I guess that’s it for a while.

That would require huge teams of people to remove everything from all of the shelves,

Impossible, you say? yes, but for a different reason
these ARE Walmart employees, ya know....

“What’s that even supposed to accomplish?”

Read the story.

It gives them more time to restock shelves as well as use disinfecting procedures inside the stores.

It can’t hurt and as long as their opening hours don’t change I doubt there will be much if any inconvenience.

The workers can’t restock the shelves while the aisles are full; I’m not surprised by this. You’re right - it puts more people in there in a shorter window - but they have to be able to maintain the store/stock the shelves. Also, their cashiers are exhausted - and exposed to far more potential carriers than most of us.

I work at Walmart. Decision was made last night and signs were printed. No employees in my store were told until someone saw the signs. It has been hell in the store I am at with people buying everything in sight. TP, wipes, alcohol, water, etc. Everything is gone off the shelves. Canned goods and frozen food too. Don’t even know why this was done. I can understand it if they chose to disinfect and/or restock shelves, but no body in my store was told why hours were cut. My store is a 6 AM to 12 AM store so we only get cut one hour. Maybe I’ll find out more info today!
