Sunday's Washington Post Magazine has a one-page "Just Asking" interview with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. On the opposing page was an arty photo of Maddow in blue light (for the blue states)? Joe Heim started out with overt flattery:
You have a highly rated nightly news show, your new book, Blowout, was a bestseller and your podcast, “Bag Man,” just won an award. As a journalist, I find all of that success very annoying.
Ha! Points for honesty. Well done.
Why aren’t you exhausted?
I am! I am a catastrophe. I’m [worried] I will have a herniated disc collapse while I’m on the air. And I’m only 46!
Then Heim asked Maddow if Trump has been the president she expected, and she gave the expected lecture:
Yeah, I think so. I didn’t have much awareness of him as a public figure before he was running. But once he was running, given the sort of recurring dynamic in the campaign — where his opponents and observers and the sort of graybeards of our democracy would identify a place where you’re really not supposed to go, and as soon as that was identified, he would instantly go there — I saw that as a template. And so I have sort of expected all along that there really isn’t any line that you can draw in terms of hurting the country or defying the Constitution or defying norms and mores in terms of what we think our civic life is supposed to be. I can’t imagine anything that Trump wouldn’t do. It doesn’t seem to me like there’s a line that he wouldn’t cross. And so, yeah, I think it’s just going to get worse and worse.

Here’s one question Heim neglected to ask. I guess he just ran out of time.

You don’t see the difference in the stats? 0.021% to 2.5% based on those numbers. That is a staggering difference if you take a moment to think about it. But let’s dismiss it all, right?

Rate of death is far higher based on your own graphic. In addition, the severity of symptoms is far greater, and length of the disease in many lasts far longer in many. That’s a major difference in how it will tax the healthcare system.
If you want to protect President Trump since that is apparently what you take priority of, do your part in taking this threat seriously and help flatten the curve. If most take the necessary precautions and take this seriously, the curve can in fact be flattened. That doesn’t require “mass hysteria” but it does require wisdom and common sense.
If it gets worse, they will blame Trump. If the entire disease were to disappear tomorrow with no one infected, they would say that Trump did a bad job.
I’m betting that they are talking to their buddies in Puerto Rico, looking for misery that they will blame on Trump. And of course, they will do nothing for the people, so they can blame it all on Trump.
Look. They are desperate to get rid of Trump. Everthing else failed: Russia, Mueller, Stormy Whore, impeachment. They see this disease as a wonderful opportunity to get rid of him.
They have no principles. They have no concept of right or wrong. Yes, they will blame everything on Trump.
They want deaths and suffering. Do not doubt me.

Did anyone expect her to say something different? She’s a fancy-shmancy journalist, but I hear her saying the same kinds of things I see from the idiots I run into on social media — the world is coming to an end because of Donald Trump, and no matter what he does—no matter what — it’s wrong.
