It's official. I just got the Santa Clara County Health Department ORDER to "shelter in place."
The link provided above is to Santa Clara County Public Health - Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 which advises...
When does the Order go into effect?
The Order goes into effect immediately after midnight, starting at 12:01 am, Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Although this is soon, please do not panic. The Order allows for all essential activities such as shopping, taking care of children, and getting medications to continue.

LOL...Those Mexican coyotes have a whole new business opportunity in front of them, especially with Mexico now closing the border. Just move their operations to the other three states that border CA.
WTF is the matter with you people? Theyre asking people to avoid unnecessary travel and trips around town. You can go to the store, get gas, walk your dog, etc. I swear so many here are just looking for an excuse to use their dusty bug out bag and run out the door. Just stop - youre no better than the press spreading lies and panic.
Too late. She’s gone. She got out while the gettin’ was good. Missed the deadline by six hours which isn’t too bad.
there will be more deaths from suicides and crime, than from the virus.
And the Flu. Today is another day of this “crisis” that the Wuhan Virus will have fewer US fatalities than the boring old seasonal flu.
In other posts, I have been careful about distinguishing what is a reasonable reaction and what crosses the line, as I believe the spread of this virus should be taken seriously. There is certainly an element out there who dont care if they spread the infection because they are young, selfish, and dont feel it affects them.
However, Santa Clara County is not ‘asking people to avoid unnecessary travel’, its ordering them to avoid it presumably with LEO enforcement. I was hoping a lawyer type would chime on on the legality of such an ‘order’, and perhaps whether or not sheriffs intend to add this to the long list of things they will or wont enforce on their citizenry. If CA code allows for this authority already, then I guess its ok because the CA sheeple allowed such laws to be put in place by their representatives. If this is authority that is being presumed by the county, then it should be of considerable concern, and LEO should consider it non-enforceable and voluntary.
Under no possible nor feasible scenarios - with losses even as high as 50% - were there anticipated conditions for surrender to Soviet rule in the event of a possible nuclear exchange.
So too this current crisis. The reason that I accept - for purposes of argument - mortality rates approximating 5% of the total population (and yes, I well understand the exponential growth estimates), is to shift the debate towards an ethical/philosophical basis. That is, in essence, what price - if any - is too high to alter this nation's social, cultural and economic traditions, freedom & liberty?
RR seems to think martial law is more likely than adopting a "let 'er rip'" policy. (That is, letting CV run through the general population to establish some base level of herd immunity.) Reducing the people to the status of inmates in a giant collective gulag, ruled over by empowered bureaucrats, all for the sake of saving some relatively small % of the people, seems contradictory to existing principles.
The debate is mounting - fueled perhaps by data indicating actual lower overall rates of infection and/or acute experiences requiring emergency medical care, as well as possible disparate generational impacts - as to why the US is abandoning all semblance of adherence to civil rights in a republican form of government.
ha ha
hahahahahahahahaha
(sorry, just venting)
What's not on this list that someone would find necessary to do right now or is impeding their freedom? I am of the belief this whole thing is being overblow and the media is fueling panic. At the same time, it's real, and we need to try to slow/stop the spread. I don't see this as terribly over the top and they're not welding people into buildings. I definitely see no reason to bug out to another state... oh, and what happens if that state does the same thing? Where ya gonna bug then?
Is this mandatory or is it just guidance?
Yes, it is mandatory. This Order is a legal Order issued under the authority of California law. You are required to comply, and it is a crime (a misdemeanor) not to follow the Order (although the intent is not for anyone to get into trouble). Also, it is critical for everyone to follow the Order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect themselves, their loved ones, friends, neighbors and the whole community. All persons, businesses, and other entities are required to comply if they do not fall within the exemptions that are specified in the Order.
So if CA residents voted for reps who passed this as a law (and CA votes for reps that do all sorts of stupider things), then they are stuck with it.
Its a misdemeanor, which is a reasonable consequence for recklessly endangering the public. I would be surprised if there is a single case that will be successfully prosecuted as the intent of someone leaving their home will be hard to prove and what cops have time to investigate that?
Yes...I am concerned, at my age, about the flu viruses...and acting accordingly
Third item from the end is the punch line: They can fine or imprison you for not doing their bidding.
And masters of dysphemism for what decent people do...
What part of the shelter in place is unreasonable, given they are trying to deal with the fact they have active cases in the area.
And aren't they damned if the do and damned if they don't? Do you just politely tell the public, "do the right thing," and assume they will comply with no accountability or recourse if they don't?
Better ask Laz!
Authorities get wide berth under public health. It’s still wolves herding sheep.
The shelter in place order lists loads of “essential” activities, including going outside to get exercise, run, bicycle, etc. ... In addition to getting food. Ino ther words, it isn;t a shelter in place order, like the kind put out in chemical spills.
Stay safe in Santa Clara County...
I have been following what has been happening in the Bay Area.
I have a friend living in City of Alameda. His brother lives in Santa Clara County...
My friend is a home care nurse...He has to work. He has to visit people.
Thank you very much. I hope your friend stays safe, too. You as well. Two days of this and I’m going nuts.
