An official working for Vice President Pence has tested positive for the coronavirus, his office announced Friday, becoming the first known positive test to date for a White House staffer.
"This evening we were notified that a member of the Office of the Vice President tested positive for the Coronavirus," Pence's press secretary, Katie Miller, said in a statement.
The positive test reflects the degree to which the virus is spreading across the country, including to those in proximity to the country's leaders. The news comes days after two congressmen tested positive for the virus

Was Pence’s staffer in Italy?
Or is Italy being added to every thread?
Just curious.
Dont they have a much larger Chinese population interacting with the area that was hit hardest?
CDC has not done anything right since this began. Apparently they are not the least bit concerned or engaged in tracking contacts and tracing back to sources as well as potential infected persons. They apparently could screw up a two car funeral.
Years ago I had three people on a flight from Angola that was also occupied by a person with TB. What CDC did back then and how thorough they were in tracking, contacting and testing was amazing to me. Now aren’t doing much at all but maintaining a lousy web site.
Katie Miller is Stephen Millers new wife.
In re the huge rise in US cases that is because we are large scale testing now.
I dont deny the number of cases but the rise rate is not really that. Its just a reflection of large increase in testing.
Those are good questions. It appears that with our nation being as initially poorly informed as Italy according to Italians warning us, we might see an acceleration of the epidemic similar to that of Italy.
Having only read a few accounts from Italians about their lack of accurate early information and the consequences, I don’t know about Chinese interaction with the area hardest hit.
RIP
That’s true and makes good sense. But the main object will not be to find and test all cases for the purpose of treating those cases. It will be to get samples from different areas for the purpose of identifying hot spots and slowing the spread in those areas with restrictions. One hope is for warmer weather. Another is for keeping the epidemic destruction down long enough to get a vaccine ready. Some have said that South Korea did well as a result of testing and subsequent restrictions.

Speaking of surges....when are we going to read about SURGES IN AMERICANS BEING TREATED WITH HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE AFTER TESTING POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS?
FDA....were WAITING!
That article contains a hit piece on the President.
Is The Hill a known never-Trumper? I don’t know because I don’t read it.
Vice President Pence has been doing an outstanding job but so too has the President.
May God protect them both!
Could it be the Pence staffer that testified against Trump during the impeachment inquiry?
I just realized that my earlier comment was lacking something. The people planning and doing the testing are also trying to limit testing to those who have the particular symptoms and/or contact with confirmed cases. They’re trying to track down cases with symptoms and are not interested in finding out how many people are immune enough to have no obvious symptoms.
Why? Just remembered. Coronaviruses mutate very quickly. Notice that an influenza strain can mutate enough times in a season for a vaccine to miss it partially or nearly completely. An individual might be immune to one sub-strain then contract and suffer from a different sub-strain (mutation) of the same strain during the same season.
Sorry for the Festus Hagan character (”Gunsmoke”) kind of explanation there. ;)
They’re playing whack-a-mole with a monster by trying to stop the spread with physical distancing. But the social distancing policy has two large security holes in it: stores and ignorance of the seriousness of the situation.
The Hill has a reputation that places it right next to Politico.
READ!!
dang.
It’s Katie Waldman now Katie Miller. She is married to Stephen Miller.

Both Miller, 34, and Waldman, 28, are Jewish and descendants of immigrants. Rabbi Aryeh Lightstone, who is a senior adviser to David Friedman, the United States ambassador to Israel, officiated, The New York Times reported.
at least the idiot got a test. My dil was exposed to positive case at work, sent home, is sick, and we can’t get her a test. Her doctorr said there aren’t enough tests. So she’s isolated in the self-contained, and I’m living alone in a five bedroom house with rhe dogs. If I get it, I’m dead.
Where are the fruckn tests? Got plenty of them for the glitterati don’t they?
Bastards.
Hopefully with the onset of Spring and a few weeks of social distancing, we can do much better than Italy.
Ive been wondering how much HIPPA privacy statutes hinder contact tracing. Havent seen anything intelligent on the subject. My gut is, its a big issue.
