Some doctors are writing prescriptions for a drug that may help treat coronavirus for their family and friends, one pharmacist said, calling their actions "unethical and selfish." Hydroxychloroquine has not been clinically proven to be safe or successful in treating coronavirus, and yet the increased demand for it is making it harder for people who need it to control their chronic diseases to get it.
Hydroxychloroquine is a less toxic derivative of chloroquine, an anti-malaria drug. It often treats autoimmune diseases, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and is sold under the brand name, Plaquenil.
Recent data show chloroquine orders spiked 3,000% in March and hydroxychloroquine orders rose 260%. The Food and Drug Administration has not approved these drugs for treatment of the coronavirus, but doctors are allowed to prescribe them.
Maurissa Tancharoen, who co-created the show "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," has lupus and has been taking hydroxychloroquine since she was first diagnosed with the disease.
"The one consistent medication I've been on since I was 15 daily is hydroxychloroquine," she told CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook.
Her lupus has been severe, requiring several hospitalizations, and the drug is a cornerstone of her treatment. Hydroxychloroquine, she said, is "a necessity."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that patients who rely on prescribed medication try to get an extra supply, but Tancharoen's doctor tried.
"She called it into my local pharmacy. She also called it into the mail-order pharmacy. Neither of those places can fill it for me because it's so back-ordered," Tancharoen said. "Thankfully I still have a month's supply in my cabinet, but of course, I don't know how long this is going to last."
President Donald Trump has touted the drug as a possible coronavirus treatment,

IIRC Scott Adams had a video contemplating are doctors & the rich deploying such things for themselves while the media downplays their efficacy (IOW, thereby reducing demand so more will be available for those on the “in”).
There are a lot of so-called smart people (lawyers, doctors, politicians) that need to be swinging.
This is a typical inflammatory article with very little evidence provided to back up its claims.
Call me an idealist, but I think the docs are trying to stockpile it so they don’t get sick as well as their nurses and assistants.
a month supply will last a month or more, and
the biological half life is months for HCQ.
this is the media peddling FEAR.
who is surprised?
Why would you expect humans to NOT act selfishly simply because they have a Dr. in front of their name?
The fake news media needs to get their stories straight. Chloroquine is either dangerous snake oil that Trump is poisoning people with OR it’s a wonder drug that doctors are hoarding for themselves. Come on, enemedia, pick on narrative and run with it!
You do realize most woman who marry medical doctors hope their new spouse only treats patients for free and dedicate their lives to poverty instead of wealth.
.
Shouldn’t be written for those who aren’t sick “just in case”
That’s disgusting.
where is the selfishness except imagined by you,
and by the woman and reporter cited here who DEMANDS
only she should have the drug
(as she hoards and sits on a months supply
as other people die — AND she has alternate meds,
and they do not)?
That must be it. All the doctors know it really works.
BS. There is no shortage according to reports and drs have every right to protect themselves and their families. So does it work?
Now if they are getting more than needed for a course thats different.
Course is only 12 tablets by one protocol Ive seen.
do you think physicians don’t treat people who come to them?
the older ones do.
the younger ones, who no longer take the Hippocratic
oath but swear to the State, ...?

That was my initial thought, too! If its as ineffective/dangerous as a treatment as the media has been trying to convince us since President Trump hailed it as a potential game-changer, why would they be so upset if doctors and pharmacists are hoarding it? A person can get whiplash just trying to follow the days talking points!

Set to start at about 17:15 min , about the next 18 minutes pertain to what you referred to. Worth the time. Four letter words.
I know bar associations are worthless when it comes to unethical lawyers, are the medical ethics groups or state boards any better with unethical doctors?
Whatever serves the Orange Man Bad narrative. That is all that counts to them. If you get whiplash so be it.
Trying to make them into the NEW kulaks
