It’s what happens when you sue the drug companies out of business.

As lovely as it would be to bring manufacturing stateside, the prices of the items will be so much higher that they won’t be affordable for most.

That is BS Free Traitor™ propaganda. The cost PER UNIT at retail would hardly go up on 99% of the stuff we import form the 3rd world. For the most part manufacturing is not labor intensive NOT MATTER WHERE IT IS MADE.

It is dangerous to be dependent upon a potentially hostile power for our medicines for anything.

Fixed it.

I'm not convinced. Heck, I don't even think that's likely. What portion of the final cost, for example, is a result of labor? Total cost of manufacturing?

If regulations are the issue, then sic The Donald on the case. It's teed up.

To the consumer, foe example, twenty cents per pill is negligible. Apply it to the millions produced by a company, and that's big $$$. That's why manufacturing has been moved.

There is an easy solution - import taxes.

Simply allow a drug company to import X percent of their total inventory / supply from overseas. When X percent is exceeded, then kick in an import tax on the profits of that company. This will create a demand / incentive for local US based production.

X percent can be adjusted over time as well. Say 90% now and then down to 60% or some number in the future. The down side is that this will, in the short term, raise the price of drugs.

When they cut the cost of an item by half by offshoring they don’t cut the price. That’s the where the money comes into play. They’re just gonna have to get used to making less money than BC( before Corona).

The price only went down a few pennies on the dollar; NOT IN HALF.

Look into Obama’s job czar Jeffrey immelt he closed down a lightbulb factory throwing thousands out of work, then moved the manufacturing to china. It may only be pennies but multiplied by millions it adds up.
For what? Better returns? Make your company more money? Line yor pockets while having thousands lose their jobs. What a great American

We need a tariff, a uniform across the board tariff of at least 20% to start with.

My impression is that this dependence was deliberately sought by the pseudo "idealists," faux intellectuals, seeking new world orders. My comment is based on my 67 years of fighting them.

Manufacturing Matters, Cohen & Zysman.

First published in 1988 when the non-patriots of business and the political establishment had just begun stripping America of its manufacturing power.

I suspect that stripping America of its manufacturing base was a combination of libertarian market worship, globalist ideology, and greed.

All rationalized with lengthy studies that were just self-serving horse####.

And the CCP has been putting that into practice.

I’ll bet that more than half of the public would be very surprised to learn that China is still a one party state run by the Chinese Communist Party.

In large measure because the likes of Apple are partners with the CCP.
