Why Widespread Coronavirus Testing Isn’t Coming Anytime Soon
The New Yorker ^ | March 24 2020 | Robert P. Baird

T This past Thursday, Donald Trump visited the National Response Coordination Center for a teleconference with the nation’s governors about how to handle the covid-19 pandemic. The center, which is situated inside the headquarters of the Federal Emergency Management Administration, in Washington, is designed, in the agency’s words, to coördinate “the overall Federal support for major incidents and emergencies.” Trump—along with Mike Pence, and several other Cabinet and sub-Cabinet officials—sat around a table in a gray-walled conference room, while the governors were patched in from around the country. The governors said their states needed personal protective equipment (P.P.E.) for health-care workers, ventilators for patients, block grants for their balance sheets, and the National Guard to build hospitals and distribute food. They also needed tests. Kristi Noem, of South Dakota, said that her state’s public-health laboratory—the only lab doing covid-19 testing in the state—had so much trouble securing reagents that it was forced to temporarily stop testing altogether. “We, for two weeks, were requesting reagents for our public-health lab from C.D.C., who pushed us to private suppliers, who kept cancelling orders on us,” she said. In order to get her public-health lab the reagents it needed, Noem said, “we had to get a little pushy with a few people.”

Basically, if you could test EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN today, then quarantine all the positive cases,

when and how often to I get retested if I am negative? The test is a snapshot in time. Negative today, positive later today.

In our current plan path, What does testing buy us? how do we treat tested positive, asymptomatic patients ? How many are re-infected ? or is it a flair up of the original infection ?

I always thought S. Korea has the right plan and their numbers are going down yet they reported 146 new cases today with 5 new deaths.

Seems to me, this thing just has to run its course.

I had the symptoms yesterday in Everett Washington. I went to my doctor’s clinic and they did the test. Easy-peasy.

“And yet the manufacturer Abbott announced today that it will be making ID NOW COVID-19 tests available next week and expects to ramp up manufacturing to deliver 50,000 tests per days.”
***********************************************
Yep. And this new test technology comes a week after the arrival of its tests for use at bigger facilities. Following is an extract from their press release. A link to the press release follows the extract.

“...The arrival of the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 test comes a week after the company launched its Abbott m2000™ RealTime SARS-CoV-2 EUA test, which runs on the m2000™ RealTime System located in hospital and reference labs around the world. Between the two platforms, Abbott expects to produce about 5 million tests per month....”

The real reason is the death rate would plummet to .0000000000001%.

That would end this unconstitutional hoax. The "deep state" is large and in charge and want to keep it that way.

......”You can’t quarantine if you don’t test”.....

Even if you do test negative you still need to stay home because the other side of the equation is not to get it after you've tested negative.

A gal today said I didn't have to back away from her in the grocery aisle as she'd been tested and it was negative. But I asked how would she know if she didn't pick it up since the test? as she was out and about..... A negative test definitely gives people a false sense of security.

This is why they're asking people to remain at home. Also why tests be available for people who are sick.

We need serological testing, too.

ASAP.

There is a ‘virus load level’ that must be present in order for the test to accurately register a positive result.
You can still be infectious with a low viral load level. So giving everyone the test could be giving people a false sense of security who test negative.

My state (CT) has had press conferences saying they don’t have the lab supplies to do mass testing.

They didn’t blame anyone—they just said—this is the way it is, deal with it.

In most states that is the reality on the ground—until it isn’t.

But today—there is a shortage on the ground.

Still in concern troll mode...the prudent testing is increasing daily and those who insist on 100% coverage are blowing smoke up their own butts.

Other than essential frontline service workers that need to know if they can work (health care workers, police, fire, emt, grocery clerks, etc), there are people for which isolating for two weeks would be a hardship such as loss of income, family caregivers, those that live with other people, etc. It’s responsible not selfish nor immoral so long as you call ahead and follow proper protective and containment procedure.

We need to test the tests and find out the threshold of infectiousness as well as to what, if any, extent this thing is airborn.

This but one of the news items that makes a lie of the title. Other articles have been posted in the past couple of days reporting developments of quick Cov-19 testing means and the roll out of many testing means across the country. American ingenuity, released from CDC/FDA shackles, the engine being mounted against Cov-19.

Unfortunately, in many states testing isn’t available for people who aren’t admitted to the hospital. There is still a shortage of masks tests. Hopefully that will change, but right now it’s a fact
