Here’s an irony for you: Tobacco may save the world

One fascinating thing about COVID-19 is how it’s turned every leftist theory and belief system upside down. All the things leftists have advocated have only made us more vulnerable to epidemic disease. Now, in a supreme irony, there’s a possibility that one of the things they most hate – tobacco – may ride to the rescue.

COVID-19, in many ways, may prove to be the undoing of leftism. Here’s a short list of all the leftist ideas that are taking a beating thanks to the pandemic:

Globalism: It turns out that interconnectedness is dangerous and that international organizations, such as WHO, are intellectually corrupt and in thrall to totalitarian governments.

Holy cow, back when this thing started I made a post here saying it would be a hoot if they found out nicotine cured coronavirus just so we could see leftist heads explode. And here it is, possibly happening. pepsidamus strikes again!

Smokers were less likely to get malaria in the Pacific Island battlefields of the second world war.

Die fast or die slow I guess.

The way I heard the story last night is that they offered to attach the vaccine organism to the leaf of the plant and grow it which is a faster method than growing it in chicken eggs. I didn’t hear that they actually had developed the vaccine itself.

Well most people never lived long enough back then to die from the lung cancer so that was a “good” trade off at the time.

The movie “PARRISH” comes to mind. Troy Donohue, Connie Stevens, et al. IIRC, that shade tobacco was grown for fine cigar wrapper. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying some of those fine stogies. In my old age I’m down to one or two a month.

I, too, had my last smoke just before the stroke that put me in the hospital for 3 weeks. I wore the patch through the 3 hospital weeks and for about 2 more weeks after going home. Then started forgetting to change it until I just left it off.

Surprisingly, the neurologist said smoking was #3 on my risk-list, behind HRT and sleep apnea.

I still dream about smoking occasionally, but never want one.

I had a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other, and have none of either one since.

Back in the 50’s as a teenager I picked tobacco, absolutely worst job I ever had. Had to go up and down rows on knees to pick lowest leaves, got paid 7 or 9 cents a row depending on length.
