Not many people realize that Connecticut is (was) a big state for tobacco production. I used to travel to Windsor, CT a lot for my job and I liked taking the back roads to see all the tobacco fields that were around there.
They call it "shade" tobacco.
Back in the 50’s as a teenager I picked tobacco, absolutely worst job I ever had. Had to go up and down rows on knees to pick lowest leaves, got paid 7 or 9 cents a row depending on length.
Yes... and under the shade (cheesecloth) it was HOT when you harvesting it. My friend had a pond, so after work, we jumped into it Bare assed. Refreshing!!
