A New York doctor hopes to help his elderly COVID-19 patients with a treatment plan inspired by the success tentatively being reported with hydroxychloroquine — and which he says shows promising results.

Dr. Mohammud Alam, an infectious disease specialist affiliated with Plainview Hospital, said 81 percent of infected covid patients he treated at three Long Island nursing homes recovered from the contagion.

And what percent of those he didn’t treat recovered? How did he choose the treatment group? Were they significantly different from the night. treatment group?

Well if I ever get the virus I want to be treated with the famous life saving “anecdotal evidence” medicine.

Seems to me this is all we need.

I will ask my Doc for a prescription when he opens on Monday.

It's worth noting that Nassau County, where this hospital is located, has one of the highest case rates in the country, yet it has one of the lowest mortality rates.

Perhaps this doctor has helped save lives.

Interesting, I’ve wondered about other antibiotics working.

After traveling the mid-east for a little over 5-yrs, Muslims lie. Muslims never accept criticism and never admit failure. Failure is because some one else caused it. Their fragile ego won’t allow for any hint they failed.
All that to say, I do NOT trust what any Muslim says.

Alam began treating his patients, 45 of whom had tested positive for the coronavirus after they developed a high fever, shortness of breath and cough. He received permission from their families before starting them on the medications, which have not yet undergone randomized controlled trials. “The majority had clinical improvement,” said Alam. “We had very good outcomes.” Alam said that 38 of 47 patients treated returned to their baseline and their symptoms resolved. Seven of the patients were transferred to a hospital and two died.

There was no control group in the study so Alam acknowledged more studies are needed to evaluate his protocol’s effectiveness.

The phrase "NO Control Group" means that no one was 'sacrificed by using a placebo' so that their deaths would count as part of the 'control group'.

NO ONE WANTS TO BE A PART OF THE CONTROL GROUP, I.E. GUINEA PIGS THAT WILL DIE.

IF GIVEN A CHOICE WHO WOULD TAKE A SUGAR PILL?

And what percent of those he didn’t treat recovered?

The article clearly says that there was no control group.

the control group does not have to be non treated patients although there are some that would refuse treatment or not qualify for some other reason. the control groups could be different treatment or doses. Ultimately randomized studies are important for bandwagon is not always correct even when rolling along at high speed. Look up a drug called xigris for a recent example. That one was going to end sepsis deaths. Turned out we were killing people faster with if.

Good for you.

Precisely correct. In a pandemic, you cannot ethically form a control group. Case history and careful control of the other measures you use are sufficient. For example, start your treatment with the recommended protocol - don’t start with something else and then switch (unless the patient’s life is in danger).

So state the point. Don't ask it as a question.

When you do that you imply that the doctor and the author of the article neglected to tell us.

These are questions that are important to ask every time a breathless miracle cure is reported on the internet or in the media. The answer in the form of a question is a valid way of making a point.

OK,this is about the 9455th “anecdotal” reported successful use of Chloroquine and Hydroxychloriquine in treating the China Virus.

ATTENTION!! ALL PEARL CLUTCHER’S TO THE FORE!!

ALL TOGETHER NOW,”THIS PROVES NOTHING! WE NEED 2 YEAR TRIPLE BLIND STUDIES USING 5000 SUBJECTS NOT INCLUDING WHITE MICE, RATS AND AT LEAST 200 MUSLIMS BEFORE WE CAN TENTATIVELY SAY THESE DRUGS “MAY” BE USEFUL.
