The defense industry is one of few manufacturing sectors in North Texas not reeling from the impact of COVID-19.
One of the area's largest employers, Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT), hired 166 people in Dallas-Fort Worth during the past two weeks and is advertising for roughly 700 more open positions in the area, said company spokesperson Ken Ross. The company builds missile products and fighter jets locally.
The additions are part of a broader push by Lockheed Martin to beef up its employee base around the country. The Bethesda, Maryland-based defense contractor said last week it has hired close to 1,000 people in the last two weeks and is advertising for 5,000 open positions.

For what?
Lockheed Martin has a big IT division as well.
Are they working on a George Orwell track-our-every-move database under the guise of virus mitigation?
Ummmm. Missile products and fighter jets? :)
Like I said that’s not the only thing they do.
They do a lot of IT work for spook agencies.
They used to have an office in a building where I worked.
Ft Worth is where they build F35’s.
It's ramped-up F-35 production.
Now that they've cleared the last of the F-16 tooling (moved to Greenville SC for foreign production), they have more room for F-35.
I think most of their missile production is in Huntsville AL.
Good company to work for.
Maybe F16's as well...I did some contract work at that plant in the 2002-2005 timeframe and that's what they were building and testing at the time.
Amazing facility....

Interesting.
Maybe they’ve figured out China released a bioweapon and the next attack might be cyber... one can dream, right?
The job that made me move from Florida to Kentucky was at an Army helicopter base near Lexington. I worked there as a technical writer for four years, and then when Lockheed Martin took over the base, they laid off most of the employees, including myself, and brought in their own folks from one of their Orlando offices. Since then I have seen them advertise my old job as available, but they made the requirements for it so strict that I got nowhere, when I applied for it. Is there any chance they will add some new jobs in Kentucky, that I would be qualified for?
I just wonder what they're up to, or whether this is somehow an omen that some hot war is coming. It's probably related to NASA / SLS / ULA though.
