I have photos of my Grandchildren at the beach in South Walton County. It was December so off season but not a soul in view other than the kids.
It wasn’t the governor who closed most of these beaches, many of which are county or city owned. It was the petty tyrants in the municipal and county governments.
He got on the phone with them last evening. Our mayor changed his tune this morning and (partially) reopened the beaches that are under his control.
I recommend the Fort Pickens area near Pensacola. Don’t go barefoot on the beaches though. Stickers, which the travel guides don’t mention. If you bring your dog to the beach, same problem. The old artillery batteries are fun to explore.
I visited Ft. Pickens over 60 years ago. It was fun for a kid running around all those batteries.
I recall exploring Battery Langdon and getting a feeling of claustrophobia after getting way back in some of those tight passages.
Some of them had been used as late as WWII.
The other guy should be/maybe is in rehab right now. Thank your lucky stars. I’m glad De Santis knows what to do in north and central Florida. I hope he leaves the tri-county misfits (where I live, mostly NY and Jersey evacuees) in place, for now.
It’s retail shopping(electronics as an example) and restaurants that are getting killed right now.
Completely agree, the point is that we shouldn’t lose any ICU beds that would go to victims of car accidents, other medical issues, etc. Flatten the curve is what was sold and that’s the way it should be, everything else is up to the individual, if you are 80 and COPD stay at home, if you are young and healthy do your part and mask up and have good hygenine. End of story.
Why were beaches of all things even closed? Fascism??
Been there, great historical area. Also, Ft. Morgan in Alabama. “Damn the torpedoes,” and all that.
Not fascism. All the spring break pics spooked the government types and the tattletales.
OPEN THE DAMN BEACHES!
Pinellas County wants to open the beaches, but the sheriff said no. Hillsborough County had a curfew from 9 to 5, but they decided to remove the curfew. I still got my beach.... My boat..
Escambia County to hold meeting to discuss reopening Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key beaches

He is such a good little totalitarian isn’t he? Want to control every aspect according to his whim and Lord knows he has all the answers and spaghetti graphs for everything.....
Should have NEVER been closed!
“Should have NEVER been closed!”
All they had to do weeks ago was limit the beaches to residents only. No vacationers. Problem solved.
Ppl r dying because they need surgeries like stints.
During reopening, notice should be taken that different states have different divisions of power between the state and the localities.
Not seeing much mention of that, but it’s important.
Yeah, we’ve “flattened the curve”. (As much as we’re going to.)
Now “distancing” must stand on other merits.
Most notably, it’s ability to protect our “at risk” population. The ones who would flood the ICUs.
Thanks,Doc,for being the voice of reason in a chorus of chaos.
