WASHINGTON (WJLA/CNN) - A Walmart customer concerned with social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic but not wearing a face mask is accused of using pepper spray on other customers who were trying to board the same elevator.
Many Walmart shoppers at a Washington, D.C., location were trying to get on an elevator to the parking garage Monday when a woman without the required face mask got on first and tried to close the doors.
She was talking about some social distancing, six feet, but she was real serious with it, though, said shopper Dominick Gamble, who recorded the incident on his cell phone. The other ladies stood up, like, Nah, we aint going like that. You gonna let us on this elevator.
When another shopper pulled her cart onto the elevator anyway, the woman allegedly used pepper spray on her face. Gambles video shows the victim holding her face and screaming.
Other shoppers brought the victim water for her face, while the security guard struggled with another woman trying to reach the one accused of using the pepper spray.
She didnt have no mask on. I dont even know how they let her in there. She wasnt even supposed to have been in there. She macing people, Gamble said.
Security held the woman accused of using the pepper spray until police arrived. She was not arrested or charged. The report says officers confiscated Sabre pepper spray.
The victim declined treatment when the ambulance arrived.
"Just try to not hurt nobody with this virus going on. Just stay in the house," Gamble said.
Physician Lucy McBride says she is not surprised by what happened. Many of her patients are in what she calls fight or flight mode.
This is a crisis, not only of physical health but of our mental health, and its more specifically a trauma, a collective trauma. All of us, whether you have coronavirus or not, are feeling loss and vulnerability and fear, she said.
Let's be careful at the grocery store...Somebody may use pepper spray on you if you don't maintain social distancing...
The shutdown must end ASAP...Some people are acting crazy because of shutdown...
I don’t want to be there when she takes her child to Chuckie-Cheese for a birthday party
That’s why I always say “never use an elevator in a Walmart.”
The virus was just a pretext for violence.
That's just their current excuse.
I’ve never even seen an elevator in a Walmart. Do they keep the American-made stuff up there?
Many years ago when I lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, there were as many fights in the Chuck E Cheese parking lot as there were in parking lots of any of the gamier bars in town. Something about that place that drives parents crazy.
Yup and one of these times it will be a gun not pepper sprays. Someone is going to snap and go postal. Im surprised it hasnt happened already with the constant fear being ratcheted you
Sabre is good stuff and one of the few self defense items actually allowed in Spain. Banned in the UK though.
Pretty sure I don’t need to see a picture.
Probably not, since what is seen, cant be unseen. 😁🤪
Fancy Walmart. Elevator, parking garage?
Its assault and the victims can demand charges and sue her in civil court if the politicos dont do the right thing.
“Ive never even seen an elevator in a Walmart.”
I was thinking that, too. But I guess the elevator was in the parking garage.
Wally is a private biz. If it wants to ado masks to the no shoes/shirt no service bit, it can do that. No state law required. If Wally is relying on an unconstitutional act by the state to hang it’s hat on, Wally is in trouble.
Never seen a parking garage at a Walmart either.
Were all in this together.
