Yuan Zhiming, director of the National Biosafety Laboratory at the lab, told Reuters in a statement that the lab didnt have the capacity to design a new coronavirus and that no information within the CCP virus genome indicates it was manmade. He also said the lab didnt accidentally release a virus it harvested from bats for research. Today, I learned something new; that "Yuan Zhiming" is Mandarin for "Baghdad Bob."

All they had to do was find a bat virus that could infect simians in a novel way, there was no need for engineering.

The Chinese have a tendency, when accused of wrongdoing, to respond with a belligerent denial in great detail of all the things that they just did.
I accept the statements of Director Yuan Zhiming in that context.

Howdy, this is the CIA in Langly. Got a question for you,

“He also said the lab didnt accidentally release a virus it harvested from bats for research.”
Then he said: “It’s also totally ridiculous to think that I kissed an infected bat on a drunken dare at the Chinese New Year party at the lab. That didn’t happen.”
