Just a few closures of meat packing plants are putting the entire meat industry on the brink of collapse. A congressman who also raises cattle sounded the alarm for years that burdensome regulations needed to go. Now will Congress act in time?
Representative Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) is gaining bipartisan support for his PRIME Act, which stands for Processing Revival and Intrastate Meat Exemption Act. The bill has been sitting in the House and the Senate for nearly a year, meaning it could be fast tracked to President Donald Trump if the political will is there.
The legislation lifts restrictions on over 1,000 mom-and-pop meat processing plants that arent allowed to supply restaurants, schools, hotels, and the like. Yes, you read that right. The American people are dependent on a few big businesses that enjoy great advantages thanks to regulation.
Massie has proposed this common-sense solution for years to no avail. Apparently nobody was listening, just like when he opposed the $2.2 trillion stimulus package in late March. However, since Tyson Foods board chairman warned the supply chain was breaking, and Trump ordered meat processing plants to stay open, Massie is no longer being ignored.

I am pleased to inform all that my meat is not short.
Bah-dump-bump!
I’ve heard him speak on Glenn Beck and he makes a lot of sense, from what I’ve heard.
I would suggest that, if he sounds like a kook to you, it may be because you have been culturally changed away from the culture the Forefathers established.
Found this:
Under Trump’s new executive order, “the Secretary of Agriculture shall take all appropriate action under that section to ensure that meat and poultry processors continue operations consistent with the guidance for their operations jointly issued by” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
So what does all that mean? Probably not as much as was feared.
“Nothing in the text of the Order claims any power to force plants to ‘stay open,’ and nothing in the statutory sections on which the Order purports to rely delegates such authority,” University of Texas law professor Steve Vladeck noted on Twitter yesterday.

And that can change in two seconds because of the latitude the DPA gives the POTUS. We talked about this ad nauseum yesterday.
That's not true.
I don't believe that. But if true, the first colonoscopy prep takes care of that.
i like the idea. and i like this guy. he’s got the courage of his convictions. he stood up for the right when all of dc (including the President) were doing the bum’s rush, pork sausage routine, bypassing the constitution. gonna call/write.
The professors answer on twitter:
You dont think this is open ended enough to provide for such powers?
The President may prescribe such regulations and issue such orders as the President may determine to be appropriate to carry out this Act.

No. Because the regulations still have to be a reasonable construction of the authorities conferred by the Act itself.
Your problem here, FRiend 98, is that there’s so much bad information floating around that it’s often hard to tell where truth begins and sarcasm leaves off ... or vice versa.
That’s why I always appreciate the /s or /sarc tags. Because sometimes I can’t tell gross exaggeration from whatever the enemedia is passing off as news.
And this is coming from an old-school newspaperman, now retired, thank you, Lord.
he’s also got the best man in Congress as a cosponser, that would be Rep. Steve King.
I’m guessing S. King’s district in IA is similar to Massie’s in Kentucky, very rural. They know what their talking about.
absolutely.
He is talking through both sides of his mouth. He is a military justice expert but he is not the commander in chief who can change policy based upon the dynamics oh the situation and if those regulations do not provide an effective war fighting strategy they can be restructured. i know because I work development of big ticket item military equipment and things can be changed in our supply chain issues if required and the regulatory necessities can be restructured into the process.
By the time the average American is fifty, hes got five pounds of undigested red meat in his bowels.”
I assume you are joking! Anyone would know that is nonsense.
Nancy will pass it if they give her $500,000,000 for the NY Philharmonic.
By the time the average Millennial Vegan is thirty, hes got ten pounds of undigested free range kale in his bowels.
And he can’t even hack it up and chew it like a cow eating her cud.
We need legislation. The DPA is not good enough and fool of loopholes.
Hey troll-boi, good to hear from you.
