Lawmaker Mark Green (R-Tenn) to Introduce Bill to Help US Manufacturers Move Out of China
Epoch Times ^ | 05/05/2020 | Cathy He

Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) is set to introduce a bill to help companies move their manufacturing from China to the United States as momentum builds for the country to “decouple” from the Chinese regime as a result of the pandemic.

Green told The Epoch Times that his forthcoming bill would allow firms to deduct the entire cost of capital spending associated with relocating from China—known as “immediate expensing”—to lure companies to move to the United States. The bill would pay for this with money collected from U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports, he proposed.

The idea of covering 100 percent of moving costs was also recently endorsed by White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow, who said it would be “a very good thing for American companies.”

The move comes as the Trump administration pushes to cut its supply chain dependence on China. The pandemic’s disruption of global supply chains along with the Chinese regime’s mishandling of the outbreak has propelled the United States and other countries to find alternative manufacturing bases.

“Any efforts to decouple is … wise for us, both from an economic standpoint and from a national security standpoint,” Green said.

He said the bill was slated to be introduced by the end of the week.

Green recently introduced another bill aimed to stop China from acquiring U.S. companies vital to national security, as asset prices fall due to the pandemic.

“Right now, they are on a buying spree across the globe for companies with a significant national security implication,” he said.

The congressman cited as an example United Airlines’ recent sale and lease back of 22 planes to Bank of China Aviation, the Hong Kong-listed unit of Chinese state-owned Bank of China.

“Now China has 22 large aircrafts that they could take off the market

I think the only way this works is that if you accelerate the depreciation on abandoned assets in China on your tax books but not on your financial books. Over time the deferred tax liabilities will unwind but a $ today is worth th more than a $ tomorrow. Otherwise if we get a federal handout situation, we are looking at a $900bn bailout.

“Now China has 22 large aircrafts that they could take off the market.”

Now, United would say “Thank you!” That ended up being a genius move - though not due to any particular foresight on United’s part.

While Communist China should be our Main Focus, India is number 2 on the list in my opinion. India is today where China was twenty-five years ago.
The pattern is simply unmistakable. And, just as unmistakable is the actions of bought and paid for Politicians such as Mike Lee of Utah. That man is a Bought and Paid For Tool of whichever special interest that will line his political pocket.
And, he’s not alone. He’s just the most BLATANT EXAMPLE of a Sold Out Politician in the Republican Party.
There are just too many to name in this category
Trump is not just battling the Dems in DC. He’s battling RINO’s within the republican party who have sold their souls for a few pieces of silver..
India’s intention to undermine America’s economy, to infiltrate our economy is the modern version of China 25 yea

Flashback to 2008, Duncan Hunter running for President. He was the only one to promise he would deal with Red China. I didn't care what or how much he was going to do - he was going to do something! That was better than the nothing the other candidates promised.

Well, he dropped out before I could vote for him. However, eight years later another candidate promised - and got elected! Now they are popping out of the woodwork. Good! Finally!

I agree with you when it comes to India. We have tons of drugs manufactured there, and it needs to stop.

My most vital medication (see username) is consistently being placed on backorder due to manufacturing stoppages and shortages of the primary (rare) ingredient. I keep having to buy my meds from out of state because the pharmacies in my state can’t keep it in stock. Demand outweighs supply.

When it comes to our technology, medicines, and food being produced out of our borders; it all needs to stop. A friend can become an enemy at any time, and China was never our friend. It was stupid to bring them into the WTO. We should kick them out.

100%?
Ah, no!
Decisions have consequences, including bad ones.
Take China off the “Most favored trade nation status” list and let them pay genuine tariff’s.
U.S. companies operating from China pay the same rate.
Sure, help the companies return to the U.S., but not at 100% and all in one lump sum.
Doing that shafts the companies that DID NOT move to China.
What really needs to be done is clear, but cannot be said aloud due to PC.

I will say some of it anyway, I’ve never been PC.
It’s past time to end the CCP industrial espionage farms that our colleges have become.
For China the hiatus in immigration of any sort needs to be permanent.
There is more, it’s not hard to figure out and it’s not “Racist”, it is national survival.

Maybe we should get rid of the corporate income tax. How many corporations would relocate to the US?
