Birx said 'there is nothing from the CDC that I can trust' in a White House coronavirus task force meeting

Deborah Birx, the White House's coronavirus task force response coordinator, blasted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a White House coronavirus task force meeting during a discussion on COVID-19 data, according to The Washington Post.

"There is nothing from the CDC that I can trust," she told CDC Director Robert Redfield, two people familiar with the meeting told the newspaper.

The Post reported that Birx and others feared that the CDC's statistics on mortality rate and case counts were inflated by up to 25%.

Birx later told The Post in a statement that "mortality is slowly declining each day."

"To keep with this trend, it is essential that seniors and those with comorbidities shelter in place and that we continue to protect vulnerable communities," she said.

Yet other sources have shown that mortality in the US remains close to 2,000 daily deaths — and does not show a steady downward trajectory, as Birx said.

The CDC is a bureaucracy focused on its #1 mission:
Protect the bureaucracy and its funding and find ways for it to grow.

Under both Obama and Trump, any interest in public health has existed only when it advanced the true mission of the bureaucrats.

Go to CDC.gov do searches for climate change, diversity and transgender. Huge numbers of hits for all three. Ask yourself if these are core missions of the CDC such that they should have devoted so many resources to developing the content those hits represent.

The whole government has been doing that for 25-30 years. Accelerated under the Clinton’s continued unabated under Bush II, hit warp speed under Zero.

CDC is keeping 2 sets of books on COVID-19 deaths.
One is “reporting” deaths - where the data comes from the states - if it looks like COVID-19, it is.

The other is NCHS reporting COVID-19 deaths as identified from death certificates. CDC reports it as “provisional”.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

The provisional death count is 47,128 as of 05/08/2020 - with supposedly a 1-3 week lag, though I’ve read elsewhere that it’s an 8-week lag.

As I have been saying, CDC dropped the ball. If anything, this is their mission. Let's include Dr. Faux with his ever changing stories and statistics.

Pres. Trump, you are missing the boat on this and allowed Dr. Faux and others to destroy your amazing economy through their hysterics.

Birx and Fauci say nothing that anyone should pay attention to anymore, imo. They were the designated experts and they blew it. Until they admit that and explain any new positions, they should be ignored.

Experts make mistakes, but they are supposed to know how to amend them and find the right actions to take.

Actually, their job was to guess. They guessed wrong. Whether there was chicanery on their part is an unknown at this time.

The CDC screwed the pooch from the getgo. They accepted WHO reports on CCP Virus. They prevented pharma and health orgs from developing their own tests. The test they provided was faulty. They set ridiculously strict protocols on who could be tested. It was originally only showing the three symptoms or having had close prolonged contact with a carrier. With the FDA they limited treatment options. They highlighted Ferguson’s model and IMHE projections. They failed to take notice of NY’s New Rochelle superspreader and the reality of the subway and commuter rail being a spreader, even though researchers from Fort Detrick had proved this reality in an exercise in the mid 60s. They concentrated on China when Europe, particularly Italy and Spain were being overrun by the virus. They demanded spurious counting methods for fatalities. Need I go on ?

One third of the CDC are "affirmative action" hires. It is highly partisan and politicized.

I have been adding the daily infection and death data to an Excel spreadsheet since late February. I use the data from Wikipedia covering the U.S., California and New York.

I believe that the data for the U.S. is simply the sum of new infections and new deaths reported each day by the individual states. I doubt but cannot guarantee that either the CDC or Brix has any influence on that process.

But I do see some trends that are worth posting about where I am using the Wikipedia data and referring to 7-day moving averages of the daily reported new infection and new death cases:

For the U.S as whole I show the New Daily Infections peaked on April 13 at 31,414. It has declined to 25,629 on May 8. So it is indeed declining. But slowly.

Deaths peaked at 2038 on April 21 and have fallen to 1786 on May 8. Also declining.

For New York, our biggest test case, I show New Infections peaking at 9664 on April 10 declining to 2878 on May 9. A very rapid almost suspicious drop in cases.

Deaths peaked at 764 on April 14 and have declined to 337 on May 8. Also a very rapid fall.

California is in a different universe. New daily infections have slowly been rising with a peak of 1806 a few days ago and 1766 on May 8. On April 8 the figure was 1236.

New daily deaths in California have been very stable, averaging about 75 per day for about 3 weeks. They appear to have plateaued.

Conclusion: A large part of the improvement in the numbers for the U.S. are due to the relatively rapid decline in infections and deaths in New York. The numbers there are still very high but the trends are very good. I suspect that there are many other states like California that are basically static in terms of infections and deaths.

Time will tell.

I’m pretty sure the CDC has become extremely politicized,”

The CDC is infested with rats. Two days ago they recommended all mail voting despite the fact there was absolutely no uptick in virus cases after the in person voting in Wisconsin a few weeks ago. If Deborah really said this there is hope for her after all.
