The medical examiners database showed COVID-19 as the primary cause of death for 2,303 people. Of those, 2,112 were shown to have at least one underlying condition as a secondary cause of death. Those conditions, also known as comorbidities, included hypertension, diabetes, obesity and heart disease. There were no secondary causes reported for 191 deaths.
This finding is important because Gov. J.B. Pritzker has refused to release any statewide comorbidity data as part of his official Illinois Department of Health releases. Wirepoints asked for data directly from the governors office on April 21st, but we were told it was not available. Weve since released a piece asking Gov. J.B. Pritzker why thats so: Whos most at risk for COVID-19 and why isnt Illinois publishing that data?
Understanding who is most at risk and who is not is central to a public understanding of the virus. Its also central to helping decide when and how to open up our economy and schools. What Cook Countys and other comorbidity data across the country implies is that the risk of death for healthy Illinoisans is far lower than Gov. J.B. Pritzker might lead people to believe based on his protracted lockdown and drawn out reopening plan.
Cook County reports that of the 2,303 victims where COVID-19 was listed as the primary cause of death, 92 percent had one or more comorbidities.

And those that know me on the board know I believe that’s this virus has been incredibly over-inflated since the beginning and destroyed the economy for nothing.
But high blood pressure and being fat isn’t really much of a pre-existing condition.
I have been both over the past decade and beaten pneumonia and bronchitis and the flu a couple of times.
I still fat but the blood pressure is under control :)
it does seem to act a little bit differently than the flu in that respect. again there was never a reason to shut everything down. I’m just saying these aren’t incredibly unusual pre existing conditions
note to self....get healthier....
With the weight I have on any kind of surgery is definitely more risky.
It might even prevent some surgeries.
I need to find some will power :-)
I saw no mention of hiv. Did I miss something?
Well, yeah.
I agree.
The biggest issue on Free Republic is that many of the people pointing to stories such as this havent done some basic research:
1. They do not understand how COD is determined.
2. They do not understand how hospitals bill, and are paid.
3. They do not understand how “normal” CODs are determined.
4. They Absolutely do not understand how the flu numbers are “guesstimated” every year.
They read a comment on one thread. Then they see a story that “backs up THEIR” preconceived idea...and then it is off the to the races.
We will see comments about how someone dying at home will be coded as COVID in order to gain money “for the hospitals.”
The ONLY true death statistic will be “Death Impacts” and that will not be calculated for at least a year. That number measures the number of people that died one year over the previous years. It will include everyone that died—no matter the cause. The difference between year A—the year with covid AND year X—a previous year or averge, will indicate the “impact” the disease has had on a location.
This is important because there are many, many people who are not seeking treatment for heart attacks and strokes—that turn deadly and are not recorded in the hospitals.
THAT is the ONLY death rate that matters.
The rest of this is just people playing with excel spread sheets.
Well you are out of my league with knowledge on the subject LOL I will trust everything in your post but I don’t know enough to add to it :-)
The virus does have some kind of effect on hemoglobin and that has been an issue but overall the average age of death is so high.
I guess diseases have always targeted the elderly but I never remember anything like this
True death rates ..denominators...percentages..dont matter when it is you that gets hit.
IL-6 is part of what is taking people out. People on the frontline have had good results with the Genentech drug.
If you get the symptoms..take it seriously..and immediately start watching the Medcram videos on the subject.

Oxidative Stress in Obesity: A Critical Component in Human Diseases
Someone here got likely got in December after some Asians coughed on him in theater type setting. Some of the students were from Wuhan.
He Has mild permanent eye damage
I appreciate that but you got the wrong guy :-) I ain’t going to stop eating bad foods drinking whiskey and doing other things that are less than healthy for the body. I’m 52 I didn’t make think I’d make it this far everything is icing :-)
You dont have to stop. You just have to recognize the factors involved making you more susceptible if you get it.
Btw, there are some studies looking to see if Viagra can help..Climbers on Mt Everest take it to keep them from dying
I’ve noticed many seem to think their “preexisting” condition makes them high risk for the Chicom flu. Not really. This bug is hitting the usual suspects: Elderly in group living, morbidly obese, etc.
note to self....get healthier....
My hope out of this is that parents take their childrens health/weight seriously and stop with the excuses. Overweight 18 year olds will have a very hard time ever achieving a healthy weight in adulthood because they dont have the programming to deny and discipline themselves.
So, if you're young & healthy, good chance you'll come out of this OK, regardless.
Anyone else -- and that's pretty much everyone "of a certain age" needs to be super careful.
No matter your age you may have an underlying condition and not know it.
For example, how many African Americans have heard of Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Yet, many males may have it and some females.
It is not exclusive to that community.
There are a lot of genetic quirks that could have an effect on how your body deals with the vascular issue
How many have heard of Von WIllibrand factor.
I hadn’t.. ...but I may actually have an issue with it given problems i Have had in the past.
It’s a misnomer to think that because you are 30 and fit you will not have a problem.
Is Stage 4 TDS considered an underlying morbidity?
It's not the pre-existing condition per se, it's the nature of the pre-existing condition. Bunions have nothing to do with it, for example.
