Late in Brezhnev’s rule of the USSR, he had to give their equivalent of a SOTUA to the Supreme Soviet.

It was sort of a “proof of life” because of rumors about his being a vegetable on life support.

Somehow he was given his written speech with 2 copies of each page, like carbon copies or duplicates.

He read page one twice, page two twice, etc.

While everybody sat in stunned silence.

He was replaced by, I think, KGB boss Andropov soon after.

And you would be right.

Andropov, former Chairman of KGB, was infamous for suppressing dissent using psychiatric commitment for undesirables.

Kind of what the Obamanation did for veterans...
