NASA scientists detect evidence of parallel universe where time runs backward
NY Post ^ | May 19 2020 | Yaron Steinbuch

In a scenario straight out of “The Twilight Zone,” a group of NASA scientists working on an experiment in Antarctica have detected evidence of a parallel universe — where the rules of physics are the opposite of our own, according to a report.

The concept of a parallel universe has been around since the early 1960s, mostly in the minds of fans of sci-fi TV shows and comics, but now a cosmic ray detection experiment has found particles that could be from a parallel realm that also was born in the Big Bang, the Daily Star reported.

The experts used a giant balloon to carry NASA’s Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna, or ANITA, high above Antarctica, where the frigid, dry air provided the perfect environment with little to no radio noise to distort its findings.

Thanks. I think I see a few stories where a specific character lived life backwards, the concept of a whole universe going back in time is mind blowing. Still trying to wrap my head around it.

So all we have to do now to change the laws of physics in this universe is to change the inverse laws of physics in the parallel universe.

Steven Wright put instant coffee in the microwave. Time ran backwards.

5 seasons, 100 episodes.

Trailer:

The “other universe” not really represented by this trailer, but its what the whole series is about.

Well, in Doctor Who, River Song was living backwards in relation to the Doctor.

this is all based on a suggested interpretation of seeing a certain particle. they assume it can only come about one way and the entire suggestion hinges on it.

this one person’s limitation of understanding pushes a fantasy of a backwards parallel universe.

Sci fi at the time referred to galaxies as island universes.

“how do we know the memory is not tricking us, that we are in fact going backwards in time but our memory makes it seem like we are moving forward”

Causality. Moving through time in the forward direction, we see things happen and we can determine what caused them in a logical fashion. However, if we were seeing those events played backwards, there would be no logical agent of causation much of the time.

For example, if I throw a ball to you, we see that I was the cause of the ball’s movement. If we replayed those events backwards, it would look like you threw the ball to me and were the cause of the ball’s movement. So far, we have preserved some logical determination of cause, even if it is backwards, it can at least appear plausible.

However, consider that instead of catching the ball, you missed and the ball fell on the ground. If we replayed that backwards, then there is no logical agent of causation. A ball that was at rest just randomly flew into the air and I caught it. Newton’s laws of motion no longer consistently apply in such a universe.

So whether the rules of causality work in a logical fashion (and whether the other laws of physics work consistently as a consequences of that) is the “tell” that you are watching time move in the proper direction.

Good news for the parallel universe. Their COVID pandemic will be over in few months.

There was an experiment many decades ago in Scientific American (when it was still a prestigious magazine) that had a rectangle with a moving ball in it. The ball would bounce off one side and then off another side. Which direction in time was it moving? At least that’s all I remember about the article - there was more, but it was over 40 years ago.

As nonsensical as stringy theory.

The “scientist” seemed to have merely chosen the most flamboyant theory, to attract attention, but the scientists who criticized him are likely on firmer ground.

That episode was hilarious. At the end when the cat says he has to go to the bathroom before they get back on the ship.

After a spell he comes back with a very disturbed look on his face and just says "Don't ask."
