Her husband - who has now filed for divorce - told law enforcement he installed cameras in their home after becoming suspicious.

He secretly recorded in the boy's bedroom in the basement, according to the criminal complaint. ___________________________________________

Is there anything unethical about what the husband did? Trying to collect information without his wife noticing?

Using cameras...Also recording sounds...

Is it unethical? Isn’t this similar to how suspicious spouses hire private detectives to gather evidence? Maybe I’ve seen too many cheesy movies with plots like that, but I have seen many such Grade B type movies where a wife hires a private detective and they catch the cheating husband taking another woman to a motel or her house , when he claimed he was working late.

Having said that I do not know what the laws or professional ethics or regarding secretly Gathering evidence against a suspected cheating spouse. It sounds like something where you would have to secretly gather evidence against them because if you confront them they’d normally deny it.

Where the HELL were these teachers in the 50’s when I was in HS? I do believe I would have risked mental harm if given the chance.

Sounds like this guy’s suspicions were correct. Ethically/legally, I don’t know. State laws about recording can be tricky. He probably should have consulted a lawyer before placing the camera in a private location. T

He should get the best lawyer that he can afford and end the marriage. There is obviously something wrong there that should not continue. The trust is broken and very likely in a way that could never be repaired. This is very Woody Allen-ish. Very creepy.

Really - the guy put a camera IN HIS OWN HOME... and you wonder if that’s legal?

Would you consider yourself unethical for installing nannycams based on your suspicion that your nanny might be abusing your children?

Would it be fair to classify the NEA as the DNC’s official pedophilia wing?

I wonder if he’ll get prosecuted for child porn (while she is prosecuted for statutory rape.)

Well there is a difference between legal, illegal and admissible. I am sure there are many loopholes with respect to expectation of privacy; i.e. bathroom and bedroom vs putting a camera in your OWN family room. Then you have to consider things like nanny-cams when it comes to protection of children. Then you start talking about recording adults and considering what the state says the age of consent is. It all gets kinda murky. If it had been my house: Camera in the bedroom to confirm my suspicions. Once confirmed, destroy that (or save it for a private divorce settlement later). Then install hidden camera in a community-use parts of the house..i.e. kitchen, den, TV room. Patiently wait and capture a series of still pics, no audio and provide those to the police....but that’s just me.
