Up until the video was posted that destroyed her life, this was just an interesting interaction between two people.

While it is interesting that offering treats tends to achieve results, it is not absurd for a person hearing “you are not going to like this” as a threat, especially if it is a person who normally doesn’t mind her dog getting treats, meaning the person wouldn’t see “I’m going to give your dog a treat” as a threat.

If the police had arrived, they would likely have cited her for the leash violation. Which would have been a fitting end.

But I do not think a person deserves to be fired for letting her dog off a leash. Seems like a punishment beyond the crime.

She was fired for making a fool of herself on camera. The problem for her is that she is in a position where she *has* to at least appear to be completely stable, rational and trustworthy. She’s handling billions of other people’s money. When you work in jobs like hers, at her level, part of your employment contract specifically states that you are not allowed to behave in such a manner to bring any of the above elements into question, even on ‘your own time’.

If she had simply walked away or had simply refused to engage beyond “please leave me alone” none of this would have happened and she’d still have a job.

Dogs on a leash can also flush ground-nesting birds. Of course, the owner would have to run around with the dog while it ran around, or have a long leash. (Any idea what the maximum leash length is allowed in this park)?

If the woman was not some uppity dog person, she might not see a person giving her dog a treat as a problem. So when the guy said “you are not going to like this” — she could well take that as “I’m going to poison your dog”.

THat is what she SAID she thought, so whether you think she was in no danger, his words suggested otherwise.

BTW, note that, while I don’t actually fault him for this, he is exactly what we are talking about when we talk about “karens”, a person who is taking the law into his own hands, enforcing a city ordinance that he approves of, by goading people and doing things that, as you say, force the recalcatrant people into doing what they are supposed to do.

This is not much different than people on highways who try to enforce speed limits by driving exactly the limit in the left lane. A matter of degree, and as most of us don’t think that speeding is an issue, we dislike the people enforcing it.

But, being a “karen” (I actually hate the whole idea of calling someone a Karen, this started because someone accused HER of being a karen, which is factually inaccurate) means you are a person who steps in to enforce government rules by shaming, attacking, and otherwise asserting your own right to be the judge of others.

Which in this case, he clearly was, and the fact that she was violating a rule you feel strongly about, doesn’t change that.

We could say that maybe he should have taken that phone and called hte police about her, rather than using it to film her and get her fired.

Re: “Whether the people he was accosting were violating what is a questionably constitutional governor’s order is another matter entirely.”

The governor has that authority per the Minnesota state Constitution and legislated statutes.

The white man accosted no one. In fact, what drew his attention to the Black entrepreneurs was the fact that the fitness center had been closed for months, and he was very surprised to see anyone - regardless of color - in there.

“Show me your cards or I call the cops” is inherently accosting someone.

I look forward to reading the relevant Minnesota criminal statute when you send me the link.

Reporting to the authorities wouldn’t have changed anything. Then he’d just have been “the racist who reported them.”

IDK.
I don’t think I agree with your conclusion.
The Ramble signage includes stay on the path at all times. So the running with the leashed dog to flush ground nesting birds isn’t going to work out. https://tinyurl.com/rambleSign
I do not judge him nearly as harshly as you do. If something matters to you and the ramble does matter to hundreds(maybe thousands of birdwatchers) you are protective of it. Listening to his voice in the video I see no reason to believe he didn’t speak gently as he did every time we heard him.
He turned the tables on her and showed her that she didn’t really have control without the lead so she put on the lead. Just because a snowflake gets triggered doesn’t mean there was a real threat. It’s the snowflake that needs to get real because the world can never be safe enough for a determined snowflake.
I know what you mean about Karen, I don’t like the phrase myself but it doesn’t mean being a stickler about the rules like the circular bouncy busters on the highway. They need their own name.

“It’s usually used as a pejorative for middle-aged white women,” said Matt Schimkowitz, a senior editor at Know Your Meme, the online meme encyclopedia. “It’s almost like they have an entitlement, where they’re kind of lording their privilege over another.”

She has a $170k/year job. I think the company was concerned about her judgement and possible repercussions from other staff who might feel it showed a pattern.
In NYC if a company keeps on staff a person who makes a sexually or racially disparaging remark or acts in a biased way the company can be sued for allowing a racist/sexist work environment. The company stated that fact & also that they were afraid clients would not want to work with someone who had acted as MS Cooper did as did the rabid feminists that got on the bandwagon late in the game and warped the message out of recognition.

It stinks that people have to be so careful now because people are super sensitive. Slightly off color remarks or even asking a woman at work out can get a man fired. Too many women are very ready to use their power to create a situation for a man who has annoyed them for any reason.

It is so bad that many men will no longer mentor a woman at work because they are afraid of being compromised by the threat of a fallacious report.
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/17/60percent-of-male-managers-now-say-theyre-uncomfortable-mentoring-women.html

By creating a class of speech crimes and by criminalizing so many behaviors, like wolf whistling we have become much less free. But this Canadian woman had been here long enough to know how to play the race card to attempt to bully this man because of his vulnerability as a black male. She had also been here long enough to know there are consequences for playing the race card & for trying to use entitlement to break rules with impunity. She reaped what she sowed.

“as did the rabid feminists that got on the bandwagon late in the game and warped the message out of recognition.”
was supposed to be at the end of the last sentence.
IDKW but sometimes my keyboard inserts a phrase where ever it feels like...

But he would not have been in violation of the contracted terms of occupancy.

What are you talking about? Was there an incident of someone being led to a dim part of the park???

White people must be extremely careful when interacting with black people. It you get into any sort of dispute and make any sort of “mistake” or if the black even feels uncomfortable, you can lose your job, reputation, business, and have your reputation ruined for life.

“Isn’t that the point? The white guy was snitching on some guys who happened to be black using the gym which was supposed to be locked. The snitching is the problem, notthing to do with race.”

Race has EVERYTHING to do with this because if he questioned some white guys using the gym there would be NO story and he would still have his lease.

Nope. The guy was there using the gym as well. And he challenged whether they were valid tenants.

Just stupid of him.

Black entrepreneurs are engaging in premeditated entrapment by using their office gym, just waiting for some white dufus to challenge whether they belong there?

I’d check your instincts there.

But agreed that the black guy in CP is himself a Karen. If he hadn’t been topped by the woman repeatedly specifying that she’d report that it was an African-American male harassing her, the story would have been about some guy making threatening statements while offering dogs in the park “treats”.

Someone should redo the Johnny Cash classic as “A boy named Karen.”

True. But increasingly, being identified as a "racist" and doxxed is all it takes to bring action against you. Let's face it, what it is increasingly boiling down to is: if you are white, Latino, Jewish, or Asian, you'd better not confront anyone black, or contact any authorities about them, no matter what they are doing.

If the gym is only for tenants, why is it stupid to ask if people he’s not seen there before are tenants? Why did they assume he asked because they were black? Notice they IMMEDIATELY played the race card. It was stupid for him to call 911 without checking with management first.
