“Why have the officers been fired then?”

A teacher friend got an email that went to all school employees. It said that if they created a public post or statement that went viral they could be fired. All employers I have known are terrified of negative notoriety. Police agencies are political. Most will throw any employee to the wolves rather than take any negative attention. My first thought was it was too soon to fire the cops. Normally, cops are put on leave while whatever incident is investigated. Then, after an investigation says they warrant being fired are they are let go. This firing was literally a reflex reaction trying to placate a lynch mob.

I predict that if no charges are brought, or charges are brought and a jury finds not guilty, that the police will end up settling a wrongful dismissal case.

Government-driven boilerplate:

Get the police out of the public light, try the case, lose. Police get their jobs back.
