There is NO excuse for this police officer to do what he did - he should be fired and imprisoned for manslaughter.

However, George Floyd had a history of violent crime, armed robbery and home invasion. He was not the innocent gentle giant as the looney leftists claim.

It’s the same as Michael Brown who assaulted someone just prior to his attempted arrest. He also tried to get the gun from a police officer in his car, assaulting him the progress and then was shot when he launched an attack against the officer.

There are always two sides to these stories and having watched several versions of the surveillance videos, some are edited and all end just as he is going to the ground catching the one officer by surprise. It also shows him dragging against the officers as they approached the police vehicle.

Passing counterfeit currency is a federal office and with his previous convictions could have meant life in jail for him.

IF it were ME on the roof; I’d be scared $h——$$!!

Being brave means being scared sh!tless but still doing your duty. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Presidents should show leadership. Put in motion solutions, protect or empower citizens. Democrats are happy to step back and let their cities burn. Trump should not allow this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What would you have him do? Go to Minneapolis and make some speech?
He’s already sent some very hostile Tweets that identified the problem and that included his threat to send in the Nation Guard.
You need to realize the best thing for Trump and us conservatives to do here is let the whole nation see the results of liberal leadership in our cities.
At least they’re burning a building that actually has some connection to the hideously corrupt and incompetent police department this time.
Indeed. Sacking local businesses is not the proper response to an out of control police state. This is much closer to the mark.
One thing I never did figure out was why the mobs torched random palm trees on the streets. Sure, they kind of look cool when they burn, but otherwise what’s the point? What’d the palm trees ever do to them?
LOL. I'm going with aesthetics. Musta been some art majors about. :-)
Do you give a damn about the people losing their jobs and the fact that taxpayers are the ones that are going to be asked to rebuild the cities that the thugs are destroying?
Police officers in general are not only necessary in order to have civil society most are NOT corrupt.
Those doing the looting and rioting need to be exterminated or imprisoned.
Well, it certainly wasn’t like we were doing it as a relaxing vacation activity. :D
None of us on that roof or in that building really wanted to be there let alone play sentinel. We would all much rather have had the police deal with it all and have none of the chaos happen. That didn’t happen, sooo... You do what you have to. And as I said earlier, the police being completely absent made the calculation of what to do immensely easier.
My AP English teacher *really* didn’t like what I wrote for my “How I Spent My Summer” essay later that year.
Nobody said we weren’t scared - we absolutely were. But it was safer there than anywhere else nearby as long as we did our part and we knew it. Ten or twenty rifles against a mob is a much better bet than trying it alone.
It did help that the opposition wasn’t generally that bright or heavily armed.
You may have not done much, but you reported for duty. Kudos. And the reason the meme has become Koreans on rooftops is because of that one historic photo. I’ve known for a long time there were others on commercial rooftops besides the Koreans.
"Earlier in the process it might have helped."
That's my point on this and other thread? Florence and Normandie avenues were the flash point. I can understand not wanting to inflame that small crowd. However, once Reginald Denny was dragged out of his truck and beaten almost to death, that is when the acting Chief Of Police of LA should have come down on those with the full might of every cop in the city, including live rounds. I also watched the thugs pulling some unknowing guy out of his car and starting to beat him. Some good samaritan black folks came to his rescue.
"LA City government was extremely risk averse and kept hoping it would burn out by itself."
Plus Chief Davis was outta town and the decision was made by acting Police Chief. BAD decision. It could have been stopped at Florence and Normandie.
IIRC, it was Gates who was still chief at that time and Davis was the acting chief. Either way, pretty much every decision made by city, county and police leadership was wrong that night.
I was actually visiting a friend a few blocks away from Florence and Normandy when everything went up. I had an... interesting... 60 block journey back home.
Oops, got it backwards. Thanks for the correction
That wasn’t the only weird or inexplicable thing we saw, but it was the one none of us could figure out to a plausible level.
Some other weird crap -
1. Man walked past with a cart containing an appliance box, about small fridge or dishwasher sized. Box was completely empty (we could see into it). Guy didn’t look homeless and didn’t look to have anything else. Maybe he wanted a toy for his kids/cats or something and just found the empty box?
2. Man pulled into a parking lot down the block in an early 80s G-body GM sedan. He pulled out a hand axe (which put us on alert)... and proceeded to go to town on the car with the axe. After smashing every window and chopping up a lot of the body, he got back into the car and drove away. We figured this might be some form of insurance fraud, or he really hated his G-body.
3. Woman ran up to the property line, flashed us and ran off in a different direction. There wasn’t anyone else around so it didn’t look like it was a distraction prefatory to an attack. We just figured she was crazy.
LOL. If I'd been there, that might have been me. Whenever I get something in a good size box I save it for my cat. He loves tearing the things up. After he's torn up all 4 sides, I toss it in the recycling and replace it with another.
To: who knows what evil?
Well, there are a lot of Freepers and conservatives who live in blue states, mine is among the bluest of the blue, and...I can’t go.
I am married, and my wife is not inclined to move so I am staying, to whatever end that means, because I am staying with her.
I understand your sentiment, but the blanket statement doesn’t fit many of us, as you probably know. Heck, Jim Rob lives in California, and most of FR’s money comes from that state.
I am hopeful that someday a real republic will return, with a government that is responsive to those who elect it.
I can dream...
