Its an ATM to die for.
A conveyor belt of cash-strapped New Yorkers most of them unemployed and some from as far as Queens queue up every day at an ATM on East 22nd Street. They wait more than two hours on a block-long line, where there is little social distancing and plenty of frustration.
The weary individuals risk catching the coronavirus, in part, because the state issued them and thousands of other city residents debit cards for unemployment benefits through KeyBank, which has only a single branch and ATM in the entire city. The branch in Flatiron is closed due to COVID-19, but one ATM is open.

Yep, our overlords really did a number on us this time.
Now I know.
I always say if there’s a warning label, it’s because some numbskull already tried that.
Can’t go to work, but go and stand in an unemployment line.
************
In some cases standing in line is more profitable than working.
The precedent for effort free money is now firmly established. Working for a living is so yesterday.
“... because the state issued them and thousands of other city residents debit cards for unemployment benefits through KeyBank, which has only a single branch and ATM”.

If these people had a bank account the money would be transferred to it. That’s how it has been done for years. Nobody gets an actual check anymore.
So these people don’t have a bank account and have to be supplied with a debit card. If they would join civilized society they would not have to wait in line.
Key bank is laughing all the way to the bank. Huge deposit to invest while money trickles out.
Yes. Very poor planning.
I hope this is due to be fixed asap. Whoever chose such a delivery method has probably never lived pay check to pay check.
It’s rather inconsiderate.
More stellar planning by NYC
I wonder which city official benefitted from the decision to use Key Bank?
DeBlasios odious wife has been raking it in ever since he took office...but maybe she gave somebody else a turn at the trough.
Someone who didn't think people could be stupid enough to stand at one ATM when there are a hundred in each borough that can be used for free. That someone probably also reads news articles before commenting on them.
Wow let’s put only one place to get money for everyone in the city during a time when people are desperate for money, having been out of work because of covid-19.
Now that’s the kind of thinking only Democrats can love.
I’m confused. Is this Key Bank not part of an ATM Network?
I have receive disability benefits from the state of California with an ATM card. It was a debit card. It was issued by Bank of America, however, I was able to withdraw cash from other banks ATM, as well as spend money loaded on the card at stores which accepted debit cards.
Apparently these cards for people were set up so that they’re not able to spend money elsewhere or go to another bank’s ATM
Just saying that the technology and infrastructure are there that they could have set this up so that people could go to any ATM and spend money in stores directly with a debit card. Why that wasn’t done in this case it is a mystery. I’m sure the mystery will be solved if someone would follow the money.
Bad credit history.
Burn it too.
Wil Rogers line: is only nation where people drive to pick up their benefits.
What happens when the ATM runs out of money?
Dey burn down da branch to stick it to da man!
