Retired Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher is suing Navy Secretary Kenneth Braithwaite and a New York Times reporter, claiming Navy officials leaked personal documents to the newspaper in an attempt to smear him and pressure him into taking a plea deal over war-crimes charges.
Gallagher, a 15-year SEAL, was found not guilty last year of killing a teen Islamic State fighter in 2017, shooting at unarmed Iraqi civilians and other criminal charges. However, he was convicted of posing with a corpse for photos in a highly charged case that had been marred by a series of prosecutorial missteps.
The lawsuit, filed last week in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California hours after Braithwaite was sworn in as secretary, claimed the Navy fed Times reporter David Philipps with a "golden egg" consisting of protected documents so he could file negative reports on Gallagher "with reckless disregard for the truth."

Good. I’m tired of these guys being framed by higher ups (department heads and others).
And by the Slimes.
Hmm. Does he allege that Kenneth Braithwaite leaked the material while he was ambassador to Norway? While he was working for various health services companies? Or before he retired in 2011 (6 years before the shooting)?
I can’t imagine working for the government these days. MY own brother just retired a bit early from the federal government and I have no doubt he did so because of the BS politics and corruption.
Good!
I love it!
Maybe a little off topic but I was just reading that William Hopper was a frogman in WWII. Does that qualify as a seal?
When you sue a branch of the military, you name the Secretary as defendant. Braithwaite is named because he is the current SECNAV.
I think they were UDT until 1961 when they became SEAL teams.

Thanks.

You need not have any doubts. The federal government is highly politicized and a very unfriendly place toward conservatives. At one time of day it was the heavy weight of bloated bureaucracies and tedious processes that wore people out. Now politics and corruption have been added into the mix.
GOOD!
That’s a game for sorority girls. Arguing that a WWII Frogman isn’t a “SEAL”? That’s like saying someone wasn’t a true fighter pilot because they only flew a Wildcat over Guadalcanal rather than an F-15. Or that a Point-Du-Hoc ranger on D-Day wasn’t a real ranger because Ranger School opened in 1950 after his time.
Timing seems suspect.
World War 2 Army pilots didn't fly fighters. They flew Pursuit planes. But the Navy (and Marine) pilots flew fighters.
My BIL was at one point Asst Director and for awhile Acting Director of a govt agency. He recently retired. He is very conservative and he had to bite his tongue all the time.
True...good point!
