I noted on Twitter last night that rioting, coming right after the virus, is a catastrophe for the cities. Regardless of whether Trump or Biden is elected in November, its easy to envision the following happening: Americans will flee the cities as they did in the post-1968 era. Thirty years of great progress for cities will be undone by the events of one spring. People will move to suburbs and exurbs. A lot more families will buy guns. Gun owners vote heavily Republican. People in less densely populated areas vote Republican too.
Trust in the government to provide basic services was already shaky and will tumble further. People who dont trust the government to provide for them vote Republican. There will be an increase in homeschoolers. Homeschoolers vote Republican.
The involuntary experiment for telecommuting, particularly among white-collar workers, has proven that workers can be relied upon to work from home. People dont trust the New York City subway anymore but those who dont need to come into the office can live anywhere. This is especially true of some of the most successful people lawyers, people in finance. High-income people will be disproportionately among those leaving.
The balance of cities, already hit by a fiscal hurricane because of the duration of the lockdown, will tip toward heavy consumers of government services and away from high earners. Cities will be forced to raise taxes. The taxes on high earners and corporations will seem punitive. Even more of them will flee as taxes go up. The things successful people like about cities, such as high-end restaurants and culture, will follow them out to the suburbs. Corporate office parks in the suburbs will see a resurgence.
People who stop commuting into cities will lose interest in them and their institutions.

From a Democrat perspective, the vote fraud machine just needs to be cranked up by a few notches to compensate.
Put a wall around them...ever see escape from New York? Like that.
Millennials are into home cooking and home grown organic ingredients too. Space and farming is popular now since Bloomberg explained how easy it is. Thanks little Mike.
I recall hearing years ago, that many moved out of cities hit by the riots after Martin Luther King was shot. Some of the riot zones in those cities resembled war zones for many years afterward.
People vote with their feet all the time, on everything from where to live to what car to drive to what brand of spaghetti sauce they prefer. It would not be shocking to see big numbers of people avoiding the big cities where rioting is happening. Against the backdrop of violence in New York and Washington and Chicago and LA, many may decide they would rather live in smaller cities and towns, even if it means a lower paying job or less career advancement.
...In other words, the demonstrators and rioters are going to remake the cities in their own image. And its going to be disastrous for those cities.

In a word ... SWEET!
I bailed from LA after the riots in 92 - and watching what the government didn’t do to fix the problems. Pulled the eject handle in 95. I’ve run into a surprising number of people that did the same thing over the years.
Given that now people see they won’t be allowed to defend themselves or their property in LA, I wouldn’t be surprised if the exodus is far larger this time - especially since suburbia in the Valley and down to Orange County isn’t being spared.
The laws of economics are relentless.
If the police will not and you are not allowed to defend your property, then it no longer holds it value.
That is _exactly_ how it works in the third world.
People hide their assets since they know they will be robbed if any wealth is shown in public.
Yup. I have friends in third-world countries (including one poor bastard in Honduras) and they tell me much the same thing - anyone showing anything nice is either an idiot about to be robbed or one of the superrich and is surrounded by guards.
We live about one and a half hours from NYC. Busses run continuously to the city & people commute from here. There are regular bus trips to Broadway shows. My sister & I just took a bus in November to see the Christmas Pageant at Radio City Music Hall. We walked all over & went to Carmines for lunch. It was safe, but I have no interest in doing that again. It wont be safe, IMO.
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
NYC, CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD. The lowlifes and losers are ripping you apart. Act fast! Dont make the same horrible and deadly mistake you made with the Nursing Homes!!!

High income people won't demand as high an income when they phone it in from a farm somewhere. Just a fact.
This is a ROLLING COUP PLOT!
My wifes hairdresser was a lifelong Democrat. Yesterday she was able to reopen her salon and while she was doing my wifes hair, she got a warning from the police to evacuate her salon because there was going to be a peaceful demonstration downtown where her salon is located.
My wife helped her load all of her expensive products and tools into her car before they left the area.
She said she is going to buy a gun and never again vote for another democrat.
I dont know if her salon was looted. I guess well find out today.
Ouch, that’s gonna leave a mark!
Trump is masterfully playing Covid and Riots.
He’s simply letting the Blue leadership turn blue counties red.
Los Angeles going to be a sunnier version of Detroit?
The losers Cuomo and DeBlasio cannot lead, they are losers.
My concern is they will come out here and continue to vote Democrat. We have some neighbors who moved here from Long Island. Got tired of the high taxes and traffic, but still as liberal as ever and vote straight Dem. every election.
Northern California?, Middle California?, Southern California?
My entire family looks like sheep, and we have appointments this week and next week to be sheared.
