German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Tuesday said peaceful protests against police brutality in the United States were “more than legitimate” and called for press freedom for those covering the demonstrations.

“The peaceful protests that we see in the US, involving many moving gestures, including by American police officers, are understandable and more than legitimate,” he told reporters at a news conference.

“I can only express the hope that the peaceful protests don’t turn violent, and even more the hope that they will have an impact,” he added. […]

“With regard to the incidents involving Deutsche Welle, of which we have also been made aware, we will contact US authorities to find out more about the circumstances,” Maas told DW. “We remain firmly committed: Journalists must be able to carry out their task, which is independent coverage of events, without endangering their safety.” …

Maas is referring to DW’s Stefan Simons, who claims the MPD shot at him twice while covering the riots. Any excuse to stick their nose in US domestic affairs, it seems.

Floyd protests [and any peaceful protest] is indeed legitimate.

The rioting and looting is what has to stop.

I hate Euroweenies. The United States of America invented freedom of the press. I don’t need to hear a lecture on it from some Kraut who’s father or grandfather may have shoved some unfortunate into a gas chamber.

Gosh, I must be slipping.
Don’t remember asking Germans, Canadians or Communist Chinese for their opinions of our allowing rioters to loot and destroy. One solution: do not allow it.

But when we want foreigners’ opinions, we’ll ask for them. Keep waiting, jerks.

Yeah, because Germany is SUCH a bastion of justice to the world...

Keep your libtard "wisdom" to yourself, stupid. I don't take advice from GERMANS who murdered 6 million of my people and sat around while the commie government they voted in gave their country away to muzzlime murderers.

Yeah, I don't think anyone has a problem with peaceful protests. Hopefully we'll have a few of those soon.

When the former National Socialist loving nation starts criticizing your policies... You know you’re heading in the right direction.

They should NOT have the right to commit journalistic fraud by knowingly and willfully lying or misrepresenting the truth. We have come to the point where they lie more than they tell the truth. Butt out, Maas.

I'm not saying it did or did not happen, no idea here ... but how many domestic terrorists have been shot at? And exactly, what is shot at? Why a reporter and not a domestic terrorist? Plus, what was MPD shooting? Paintballs, beanback, rubber bullets, real bullets? I have to question these things because it doesn't appear the MPD was being forceful anywhere. Plus you can't believe anything written by DW.

These protests and looting and rioting are ILLEGITIMATE.

They’re ALL about demanding “Justice”, right?

The murdering idiot cop has lost his job, his wife, his family and he is in jail awaiting MURDER charges - all of which he deserves..

Justice is already being served. This looting and rioting is just anarchy for the sake of acting like animals, plain and simple.

One has to ask how unmoored they are from that. National socialism was in many ways a continuation of the “state socialism” that Bismarck instituted, and now they claim to be the champions of the “social market economy” which also has roots in state socialism.

That is exactly my point - add to it that peaceful protesting is always OK irrespective of reason.

I may not like what you're standing for but I will defend your right to express it freely.

Peaceful protests are a guaranteed right under the 1st Amendment. Bricks,Molotov cocktails and the theft of diapers,Colt 45 and flat screen TVs aren't.
