I see what you did there...
They’re serial-numbered...
Yeah.
My dad saved up for 10 years to be able to buy a used Rolex as a celebration of his retirement.
Huge cultural differences.
Little did I know the secret was to cease being a productive member of society.
Then I could riot and loot with impunity and a new tray of Rolexes would be there for the taking. Hell, maybe I could score a Breitling or three too.
Because the best way to protest the killing of George Floyd is to help yourself to a new Datejust.
Now we know why the Gov put his food down.
He got a call from the store owner.
Was the mayor’s daughter among them?
A small up-scale suburban town near me was shutdown on rumors of riots. 90% of the shops were boarded up and about 20 neighbors with guns hung out. A group of 200, mostly upper-middle class white kids held signs and marched around.
Nothing happened, and it was good press for the good guys. “We support the First Amendment. And I also stand with them in their support of George Floyd. But we are here to prevent any looting or destruction to our town by others that might take advantage of the protest.”
The town was ready as rioters had hit the town just to the south pretty badly the night before.
There was an interesting story on the Antique Road Show. Some Vietnam Vet describes seeing the Rolex some pilot was wearing, and that it was good for diving. (Submariner).
The guy hemmed and hawwed, and at the end of his tour finally got one for $400(?). But then when it was time to go diving he thought that was too nice of a watch to go diving in.
It ended up in the box with the original paperwork and the original flimsy paper on the back plate with the serial number as well (something like that).
So he brings it to the show. And it was some ultra-rare Submariner that had some little detail that was only on 200 watches or something.
So the dealer says “A Rolex like this in good condition would get you $350,000 to $450,000. The vet falls to the floor. He gets up.
The dealer says “Except this is in excellent condition. With all the paperwork, and even the original sticker on the back. At auction this would bring over $600,000!
(The prices are approximate, but they were something like that!)
A buddy of mine has a Rolex that belonged to his uncle.
His uncle died in a private plane crash, but the watch was undamaged. The watch was manufactured in the early 1960’s.
What? They could only grab 3 of them?
A Rolex sponsored sports car race winner received a Rolex watch presented by the president of Rolex. He took it to a Rolex dealer to make some change and the dealer tried to convince him it was counterfeit.
They was my first response, except I thought maybe ten.
I guess they did better than going over to Chinatown where they only could have stolen a bunch of Rolox watches.
LOoters with at least a little taste, apparently.
True, but I'd be surprised if most of them were not less than $15k or so. Rolex is really the low end of the "luxury watch" realm. Now, if they'd been plundering some Patek Phillipe, yeah, they'd be banking some watch.
I lust for a Patek Philippe perpetual because they are amazing examples of engineering. Sadly, I'm not willing to sell my house for it. There are Rolexes that are nice, but they are really just Fords when compared against Lamborghinis.
Too funny on many levels.
Excellent! What state was this in?
