It’s been a week since I went to my Lowe’s, but I didn’t have to wear a mask.
Perhaps it’s a local ordinance?
Lowe’s corporate only requires their employees to wear masks. I chuckle at but don’t chastise the 40-50% who don’t wear them properly, or at all.

I am not sure how accurate even this is. I have many friends, well over age 65, who live in various retirement communities. There have been no outbreaks in any of them. I do not understand why we have not been given more complete statistics about the people who have needed hospitalization, intensive care and the people who died.
In order to make personal informed decisions about going out, we need information about, not just the ages, but which comorbidities people already had.

That's because everyone was scared that this was a pandemic like the bubonic plague--and many still do. I still see people walking around or riding bikes outside wearing masks.
Sadly, my church has bought into this. Last night, our pastor announced that it will be some time before we reopen and when we do, there will be severe restrictions including assigned seating with every other pew empty, temperature checks of all who enter the sanctuary, no singing, only one pew at a time being allowed to leave after the service, and no coffee hour afterwards.

My point is that, like you said, vivid is more dangerous than MOST annual diseases in America. However house arrest for citizens, freeing criminals and shutting down the economy was and is not a cure. Statistics show it made it worse.
