David Petraeus: Remove Names of Confederate ‘Traitors’ from Army Bases

Retired U.S. Army General and former CIA Director David Petraeus on Tuesday wrote in an op-ed for The Atlantic that “It is time to remove the names of traitors like Benning and Bragg from our country’s most important military installation,” a reference to bases named after Gen. Henry Benning in Columbus, Georgia, and Gen. Braxton Bragg in Cumberland County, North Carolina.

It gives me considerable pause, for example, to note that my alma mater, West Point, honors Robert E. Lee with a gate, a road, an entire housing area, and a barracks, the last of which was built during the 1960s. A portrait of Lee with an enslaved person adorns a wall of the cadet library, the counterpoint to a portrait of Grant, his Civil War nemesis, on a nearby wall.

[…] We do not live in a country to which Braxton Bragg, Henry L. Benning, or Robert E. Lee can serve as an inspiration. Acknowledging this fact is imperative. Should it fail to do so, the Army, which prides itself on leading the way in perilous times, will be left to fight a rearguard action against a more inclusive American future, one that fulfills the nation’s founding promise.

Last Thursday, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced a statue of Robert E. Lee will be removed “as soon as possible” from Richmond’s Monument Avenue.

The statue, which sits on state property, will move to storage while Northam’s administration works “with the community to determine its future,” the governor said at a news conference where the announcement was met with extended applause.

Will they remove Patton’s Statue at West Point, because his Grandfather served in the Confederate Army?

Yes, I should have seen the connection. This is all part of another extended long march through our culture and history to end with “fundamentally transforming this country”. The final stage is a GULAG for thought criminals.

And if Trump wins again that all but seals the deal for CWII.

And I don’t say that lightly at all.

If it must come, then let it come.

What a shame.

Untold deaths and loss of limbs and horrifying head injuries...all because they hate the country.

geez

In order to escape the ‘new order’ of ‘fundamental transformation of this country’ peaceful separation via secession may be our last resort. Of course the neo-communist will pull out the Lincoln playbook and move for armed coercion this time calling on the UN for countries such as Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangla Desh, and Syria to provide unit and individual ‘peace keepers and peace enforcers’.

Why do Demoncrats always want to sanitize their history of being “traitors”, slave owners, segregationists, etc.? Why not leave them for history’s sake?

From Wiki
“Petraeus was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York”
Says it all.

Remove him from history books too.

The rats don’t want to sanitize their history they want to foist a completely purged version of US history just as the communists did in Russia.

Robert E. Lee was a man of much greater honor than David Petraeus. If he was a traitor, so was George Washington for rebelling against King George. Lee did as much or more than any other Southerner to try to heal the divide between the South and the North after the war. During the war he did what he considered his duty.

Should we now quit referring to President George Washington as the “Father of our country” ? Should we remove his face from our money? Should Washington state change its name to Sambos? Perhaps Washington DC could be renamed Fried Chicken. Washington owned slaves at one time.

Yes, all of what I posted above was ridiculous but all this race crap is just as ridiculous.

I am not a racist and never have been, but there are some Blacks and their damn helpers that better pray that people like me don’t change our minds.

George Washington, Jefferson, Adams, etc. were all traitors to the British government under which they were born.
