States got to name army posts built in their borders and they chose native sons. Wilson didn’t choose the names. Leave the Blame Wilson nonsense for Beck and D’Souza and the other simpletons who specialize in it.

Shall we tear out the Confederate gravestones & graves while we’re at it, too?!?!?!

OK, if they start destroying the graveyard monuments of Confederate dead, it's on like Donkey Kong.

We'll start by digging up that POS Teddy "the Swimmer" Kennedy and desecrating his useless corpse with dog feces.

[[[And when it happens, then what?]]]

They dig up the bodies.

Exactly!

Every dead body must be dug up and subjected to a hochnotpeinliche Befragung (inquisition with torture) to determine if the person in question a) ever held any racist sentiments; b) has the "right" ethnic background.

look at the FANTASTIC Tom Sowell quote

As a courtesy to my fellow FReepers, here's the actual quote:

Have we reached the ultimate stage of absurdity where some people are held responsible for things that happened before they were born, while other people are not held responsible for what they themselves are doing today?

Warren reminds me of the cow that crossed the field between Union and Confederate forces in Dances with Wolves." Either side would have been delighted to shoot her.

“Insanity...”

Sanctioned desecration! That is outrageous!

Chicago was the location of a Federal PoW camp for Confederate soldiers. Many died at that camp. Hence, the thousands of Confederate graves.

My liberal friend swears by that insanity.

Lincoln would be a Democrat today.
But bizarrely, Kennedy would still be a Democrat.

Not being prone to vivid hallucinations, I have *no* idea how the Magic Swap actually works.

SORRY TO YELL. The way to combat this is twofold. First, you say you will agree to it but only if they FORMALLY agree that the subject covered is the end of that specific issue and 2. FORMALLY agree to take it to the logical extreme. The Left will never agree to either and you win. Using this here, re 1, this forces them to name every single monument they want torn down which they know they will never do because they need this to go on and on for political reasons and 2. Say you want to dig up the Confederate graves and burn the bodies and scatter the ashes on Northern soil. Can get as creative as you want.

For clarity, I personally object to pulling down statues, Confederate or otherwise, because the executive politicians are too cowardly (or too woke) to distinguish between “peaceably assemble to petition” and outright mob intimidation. I really, really object to entering graveyards to remove memorials to the dead, especially ones placed by the deceased serviceman’s family. So Senator Warren’s amendment is particularly vile.

But legislative politics is tactical. The reason it is “not the hill to die on” at this time is because it still has to get through the full House and the Senate. If it manages to do that (and there is no certainty of that), the measure is certain to be vetoed by PDJT and returned to Congress for possible override. Neither house is likely to override and the measure will die.

It’s mid-June. The process may take months and months and, if The Turtle can work schedule magic in the Senate, they might not get around to voting on it until... after the election.

Now, if it does come up earlier than that, then it may be necessary to finally die on that hill. In the meantime, there is no virtue in unnecessarily drawing fire from part of the constituency who, when they get a chance to calm down, will be able to see the Democrat pandering and manipulation for what it is. The others are a lost cause and were never going to vote Republican anyway.

“when they get a chance to calm down”

Will never happen.

Warren wants to force a veto so she can call Trump a racist.

The goal here is not to pass legislation. ANTIFA doesn’t need new laws to destroy monuments.

The Confederacy was a treasonous entity. But desecration of a cemetery is immoral, sacrilegious and unlawful.

Lotsa freepers are in denial. We’ll get waylaid this nov and then the 10 round mag bans and anything that can accept one will be banned.

Then anything that offends and.. and it makes me sick to say it, a BiCOP.

Basically we’re doomed, and for this time I think it may really be the chase unless Trump pulls off the biggest upset in history.

Dig up the confederate dead and piss on their bones, of course. Then outlaw fried chicken and then outlaw grits. Sufferin’ succotash.

I’m referring to calming down by the election.

You are absolutely right about the Democrat politicians, activists, “Woke” liberati, etc.

But, with patience, reasonable people, now genuinely upset over Floyd’s death, can be brought around to the view that a lot of the behavior and demanded actions have nothing to do with the problem or its possible solutions and are just posturing to further radical agendas. In fact, there are a lot of voices within black communities already starting to point this out right now.

Frankly, PDJT could probably do a lot of Republican representatives and senators a favor by releasing a WELL REASONED written statement (not a Twitter post) right now stating that the measure will be vetoed if passed. Sort of take the drama out of the veto by announcing the action well before the actual event.

Or does it really end when Napoleon is crowned emperor?

Or does it really end when Blucher saves Wellington’s army at Waterloo and Napoleon is finally sent packing to exile?

...Monuments In Graveyards

regularly get destroyed around Halloween time.

They usually get fixed up again.
