Coast Guard Base Alameda also referred to as Coast Guard Island is an artificial island in the Oakland Estuary between Oakland and Alameda, California. It is home to several major United States Coast Guard commands and cutters, including the Coast Guard Pacific Area.

It is one of the largest Coast Guard bases on the West Coast. From 1942 until 1982, the island was the site of the Coast Guard's recruiting training center (boot camp), enlisting and training hundreds of thousands of Coasties including many of the 214,239 who served in the Pacific and European Theaters of World War II.

Personnel Support includes the management of approximately 700 CG-owned Housing units, transportation of household goods, the Child Development Center (CDC), Morale, Recreation and Welfare (MWR), and personnel support services.

The Integrated Support Command provides office and work spaces for permanently based tenant commands and messing and berthing for their personnel. Coast Guard Island is in the Oakland Estuary between Oakland and Alameda. The 68-acre island is situated in the historic Brooklyn Basin, now known as Embarcadero Cove. It is within the Alameda city limits, however, and only accessible via Campbell Boulevard in Oakland.

The Island supports a number of government facilities, including the Pacific Commander Station (U.S. Coast Guard District Eleven), an industrial service center, the San Francisco Marine Safety Office, a training center for reserve and enlisted coast guard personnel (class-rooms), living quarters, four 378-foot long high-endurance cutters, a medical and dental clinic, and public works facilities to service the island (i.e., sewage treatment, wastewater treatment)

I guess I thought it was time I “modernized” it. It’s been nearly 16 years since I took that name. Started to go with luvthedonald, but then that would be ancient histrory by 2024. LOL!

Hubby just poured out 1/2 inch a bit ago and it was still raining. It was a lovely hard rain with no violence. The kind I love. AND it’s 30 degrees cooler than when it started. LOL! I really love that part!

You could go out there and watch those beans grow, I’ll betcha! :)

Very good! That'll make your grass happy - - and your hubby unhappy when he has to mow. LOL

I've said pretty much the same thing to Hubby more than once. The corn Dusty plants does the same thing. I snapped a pic of some wild turkeys in the field Fri. morning and the beans looked the same today as they did then. I'll have that for comparison.

There’s a big batch of rain up around Big Delta and it’s moving in your direction. If it holds up, it’ll be a nice soaking for y’all.

We needed the rain we got today. We’d only gotten .7 an inch for the month so far. We needed more than the inch we got but it’s better than none.

Free and at peace. She’s joined the three others we’ve lost this year, as well as many more who were her friends over the years she was here. Many happy reunions.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Did you get through the second round of storms this morning without losing power again? Was the weather nice in time for your outing with Gizmo?

Well, so far this morning we have had no storms but we'll see what happens. There is some activity out to the west of us.

Pics from yesterday's visit to Comanche Lake.

I miss Tonk.
He’s the one who told me about the Canteen. So many years ago, yet it seems like yesterday.

There was another round of rain headed your way yesterday morning, behind the one that knocked your power out for a little while. I didn’t know if it calmed down and gave you no trouble.

It looks like it was a hot day yesterday. Gizmo stayed close to water. :-)

I look forward to seeing the comparison by tomorrow. Your hubby ain’t gonna be happy to have to mow either. LOL!

I’m sure my grass is happy...and the poor bedraggled plants that got torn up by the hail over the weekend. Maybe they’ll get lots of new shiny leaves.
