Top officials in the White House were aware in early 2019 of classified intelligence indicating Russia was secretly offering bounties to the Taliban for the deaths of Americans, a full year earlier than has been previously reported, according to U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the intelligence.

The assessment was included in at least one of President Donald Trump’s written daily intelligence briefings at the time, according to the officials. Then-National Security Adviser John Bolton also told colleagues at the time that he briefed Trump on the intelligence assessment in March 2019.

Atrocities occurring during a war?

I’ve never heard of such a thing /S

I’m SHOCKED, SHOCKED I say.

Didn’t President Trump already say that those same intelligence sources concluded there was no credibility to the reports?

Well there is another problem as well. All of this is about keeping Russia to the front as our main international enemy, which distracts us from China. This plays into two groups, those intel and foreign policy wankers whose "expertise" is Russia; and it keeps us from looking closely into those who are colluding with China. It also helps China by keeping us from paying attention to what China is up to.

Russia remains a threat and we need to keep an eye on them, but they are a declining power, with a declining population and a 2nd rate economic power. What, pray tell, would you ever think of buying from Russia: a car, a cell-phone, one of those high end $100,000 Swiss chronometer designer watches? Sure Russia tries to steal our technology.

China is a growing power. It seeks not just to steal our technology but subvert us and displace us through mimicry, theft and subversion as the global leader in innovation - provided it is socialistically responsible technology, e.g. supports the power and influence of the CCP.

So, the Bolton's of this world are has-beens trying to stay relevant by keeping us from noticing that the world has moved on.

Of course nobody remembers how the US poured weapons, training, and lots o’ money into the Afghan resistance against the Soviet invasion.

And heck yes, we asked them to target Russians, and likely gave them big bonuses if they bagged a big one.
