Richmond, VA _ The City of Richmond Thursday removed the Maury Statue on Monument Avenue at Belmont, along with two cannons on Monument avenue, one just west of the Arthur Ashe Monument, and the other east of the Jefferson Davis statue.

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney said the statue and cannons were among eleven the city would be removing in the coming days, following Wednesday's removal of the Stonewall Jackson statue, but it would wait until after the July 4th holiday.

Maury was a confederate navy officer during the Civil War and known as the "Pathfinder of the Seas", which is the name of the monument, the pedestal of which also contains a globe with various figures around it, which will require heavier equipment to remove.

Stoney says the statues will be placed in temporary storage while the city solicits public input on what should be done with them.

OK.

Did you know that BOSTON, MA has MORE KKK-IDIOTS in 2020 than AL, GA, MS & LA combined?
OR
That NY has more KKK members than ALL 13 CSA States combined in 2020.

During my military career, I was stationed in BOTH New York & in Louisiana & was often TDY in MS & AL. - Can you guess which State, had MORE IGNORANT/HATEFUL BIGOTS & ANTISEMITES=
(HINT: The BIGOTS & “Jew-HATERS” had DY accents & thought that they were superior in every way to Southerners)

Aren’t DYs just so wonderful??

A PERSONAL NOTE: As long as I live, I will never forget the comment of a Colonel from CT who asked me, “Tex are there any other Johnny Rebs who are as smart as you are? (pause) “I always thought that ALL Southerners were ignorant, uneducated & stupid.”

Meanwhile in West Virginia, there are 137 streets and roads and 47 buildings named from KKK grand Kleegle Senator Richard Byrd. There is no tally of his statues

They think of history the same way they think of gender.

Completely changeable and whatever they felt like when they woke up this morning.

Almost W/O exception the statues & the majority of the memorials to the dead were placed on PRIVATE PROPERTY. - For example, the statues on MONUMENT AVENUE were all on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

This is even more infuriating. If these statues are on private property and were paid for by private citizens, then by what authority can the government take them down and confiscate them?

When this statue-removal nonsense started gaining steam, I was wondering if there were any organizations or groups of individuals in various states who would get together to purchase some private plots of empty land to which these historical statues could be relocated to keep them 'safe' from government removal.

If the government is removing statues that are already on private property, then it appears that there is no 'safe haven' for these works of art, and private property rules have been effectively eliminated.

I hope you are correct regarding the civil suits.

So when are all of the KKK Robert Byrd statues coming down? Some idiot republican senator might want to ask the question.

The HATERS do what they do because they believe that NOBODY will stop their unlawful acts.
(An old Army buddy, who lives in Richmond, tells me that the Mayor KNEW that his acts were ILLEGAL & doesn’t care.)

For now, they may be correct

‘Had the CSA won the Civil War, would there be statues of Lincoln, Grant, Sherman and McClellan in Richmond?’

Little Mac was more of an asset for the CSA than for the Union...so maybe...

Stoney says the statues will be placed in temporary storage while the city solicits public input on what should be done with them.

What if 'public input' says "Put them back up?"

‘It’s was very commonly believed before the civil war that states voluntarily joined the union and were free to leave. I wish it were so today.’

okay; if it were so commonly believed there would have been no conflict, would there...?

Can you post the article/sect in the US Constitution codifying that unilateral state secession is not allowed? Thanks in advance.

""Secession belongs to a different class of remedies. It is to be justified upon the basis that the States are Sovereign. There was a time when none denied it. I hope the time may come again, when a better comprehension of the theory of our Government, and the inalienable rights of the people of the States, will prevent any one from denying that each State is a Sovereign, and thus may reclaim the grants which it has made to any agent whomsoever."

Jefferson Davis, Pres. CSA.

La Var Stoney, the semi-literate mayor of Richmond, is the de facto governor of the state. If Stoney told Coonman Northam to take a dump at 2 p.m., Coonman would drop trou wherever he stood and gladly oblige.

Yes, Meathead. The fact that the US had, until this recent idiocy, revered those who fought on both sides of the conflict explains in large part why we never had Civil War II-—unlike so many dysfunctional pestilence holes around the globe.

Exactly — wiser heads prevailed that knew the number one goal had to be making us all one nation again.

The desire was to end the conflict, not perpetuate it. That is the key to understanding why the modern democratic party and political left is destroying this nation. Republicans have been trying to reach accommodation with them for fifty years and it has been an utter failure.

They are no longer just going after confederate figures, but now demanding the destruction of all symbols of American history and attacking the very ideas behind the United States. They are implacable domestic enemies funded by foreign actors.

This is also why so-called conservative politicians have been an utter failure and Donald Trump has been wildly successful in spite of his failings and missteps. He understands this is an existential struggle determining whether this nation even has a future.

“Conservative” leaders like the Bushes believe that the various democrats and leftists are simply another voice at the table wanting to shape the future of the nation. Once again, that hasn’t been true for fifty years. Clinton, Obama, their political appointees, the democrats in congress, the media, and all the various leftists groups want to enslave the US to their own power. One need look no farther than the weaponization of every bureaucracy against conservatives to understand what they have planned.

Tearing down statues is just an attempt to erase US history so people don’t have a reminder to question what the left is doing.

I seem to recall there was an argument about putting up a statue of Arthur Ashe on Monument Ave. years ago, did that ever happen?
