Nightmare in New York: How Covid-19, BLM protests and a liberal mayor are turning the city into a no-go zone

Nightmare in New York: How Covid-19, BLM protests and a liberal mayor are turning the city into a no-go zone as murders skyrocket, shops are looted and 500,000 middle-class residents flee.. Title

Joel Kotkin, a leading expert on urban trends, and a native New Yorker who now lives in California, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘This is an unprecedented crisis the likes of which New York has never faced. When 9/11 happened, it was a major disruption but the country and the world rallied in support and there was a great sense of solidarity.’

Back then, Rudy Giuliani was mayor and considered a strong leader. The city was shaken but it was back on its feet in weeks.

But Covid hit when New York had already been in decline. Kotkin says: ‘Under Mayor de Blasio, conditions were perfect for the pandemic to flourish. The subway was filthy. There was a huge disparity in wealth. The rich immediately fled to homes in the country or by the beach.

Millennials went home to their parents. That left poor people and immigrants living in incredibly crowded conditions with high levels of poverty and multiple generations in one household. Add to that the [BLM] riots and the protests and New York was a perfect storm of everything that could go wrong – and did.’

Significantly, Kotkin believes that people being able to work from home will dramatically change the nature of life in New York for ever. ‘When the Twin Towers were hit in 2001, the internet was still in the early stages. Now it is easy for people to work remotely.

‘A city which is perceived as dangerous and dirty doesn’t hold any appeal. It makes sense to locate to suburban regions and smaller towns that are generally safer, cleaner and less expensive.’

New York City is just another city run by the Libs that is rapidly declining.

Not just the Kaiser. The city council, too.

And Cuomo and the state legislature enabled it all...

We could well see some big demographic shifts in the years ahead.

Why do people live in big cities in the first place? For some, jobs and career fields cause them to work in places such as New York City. But what if the job doesn’t have to be done in a skyscraper on 5th Avenue or Wall Street? What if the job can be done elsewhere?

I’m sure that many companies which lease expensive office space in many cities are looking at those leases. And will allow those leases to expire, renew at sharply lower rates, or lease less office space, with the expectation that many employees will not be working there full time, or at all.

And the housing market will be affected too. If you don’t have to live in NYC because you are not required to physically go to an office in Manhattan, would you move to a less expensive place instead? If given the choice, I suspect many employees would do so.

So just what was it he was escaping? It is a modern version of the old joke- "He was born in Indiana and moved to Iowa as soon as he heard about it."

NYC is a real shi! hole of communist Democrat criminals and will never recover. Nothing worth saving and Californian is almost the same. Trump better not consider saving these hell holes with any bailouts. A city will not save itself with law and order is not America but a rat faced hell hole.

De Blasio isn’t a liberal, he’s a card-carrying communist and anti-Semite.

I don’t know what’s more dangerous, New York City or its nursing homes. I won’t be visiting either any time soon.

They will likely continue voting for all the leftwing idiocy, never realizing they are the cause if all their troubles.

IIRC, NYC’s net population gain for 2019 was in the hundreds of people.

WuFlu deaths have wiped out 2019’s population gain and then some.

I’m thinking NYS will lose at least 2 House seats this time around.

Caroline Graham, calling Caroline!
Rudy Giuliani was not “considered a strong leader.”
He WAS a strong leader.
And, bringing “wealth disparity” into the equation shows
that your envy can blame EVERYTHING on wealth, not considering all the factors that fueled the “perfect storm.”

SHEESH!

The last bastion of NYC is the financial district. Once that bolts, turn out the lights. Thousands will never return to an office setting for work in the city. Many companies are looking at their lease agreements.

People are leaving the city in droves to upstate counties. Real estate values up here are skyrocketing. Then they will keep voting communist.

The Covid Communists have forced a paradigm shift regarding the destruction of cities.

Yep, certainly true. Loving it here in green leafy suburb. Leaving NYC in October was one of my smartest acts. I read the handwriting on the wall and got out before COVID and riots.

Cities will always retain some social attraction, as the place where the action is, but for those raising families and working to get by, they will welcome opportunities for cheaper, bigger, better and safer housing away from the downtowns; if they can swing it with the job.
