The Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was killed by Atlanta police last month is being torn down.

Photos and videos from an Atlanta Journal-Constitution photographer on the scene show construction crews using an excavator to demolish the charred remains of the University Avenue restaurant.

“This is being done in a thoughtful way, with safety as the priority and in cooperation with city officials,” a Wendy’s official told AJC.com. “There are no additional details to share at this time regarding this site.”

Tuesday’s demolition comes a little more than a week after demonstrators who had camped out at the site following Brooks’ death were forced off the property.

If I were Wendy's, I would sell the land and not rebuild. Another Wendy's at this location is just going to stay a magnet for all the locals who want to keep some kind of protest going.

Wendy’s lesson in diversity training was an expensive one.

Remove everything including the asphalt and concrete leaving bare dirt. Salt it so nothing will ever grow there. Leave it vacant.

Wendy's won't come back. Neither will most of the other ruined businesses.

Then the savages will whine about "food deserts" and blame white men for their problems.

A shame for the franchise owner. I hope they can find a new locale.

Who in their right mind would build anything on that lot?

It will be a parking lot almost certainly. Nothing will be built and the jobs lost.

I could use a Wendy’s or a steak and shake in my town.

There needs to be a shrine at the former site of the Wendy’s so the faithful can come and kneel.

You have got that 100%. Has it been ID'd as a franchise or Corporate owned I wonder. If franchise could be a big loss to the owner who COULD be non-white. Would not and will not make any difference to the MOB!

“A shame for the franchise owner. I hope they can find a new locale.“.

Some of the franchises are that they give you the rights to run one at 300 Main Street or whatever. If the road gets widened and you have to move to 400 Main Street, you have to buy another franchise. Sonic is one.

We’ve got 2 McD’s, 2 Wendy’s & 3 BK’s here. Boring! At least there are a decent selection of options.

Tear it down? NO!

They should have left the wretched charred ruins there as a testimony to BLM.

The article BARELY mentions it, at the end.

“We did not want any other accidents or incidents to occur because of the building being burned down and not be structurally safe at this point,” he said.
