FBI officials hid copies of Russia probe documents fearing Trump interference: book

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and other top officials reportedly took steps to preserve memos authored by former Director James Comey and other key documents related to the Russia investigation over worries that President Trump would interfere in the probe, CNN reported Thursday.

In the days following Comey's ouster in 2017, McCabe reportedly thought that President Trump's decision to remove the FBI director was problematic and, as the then-acting director of the agency, instructed his team to open a criminal case, according to an adapted excerpt from CNN legal analyst Jeffery Toobin's book, "TRUE CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS: The Investigation of Donald Trump."

Rod Rosenstein, then deputy attorney general, announced the appointment of Robert Mueller to oversee the Russia probe later that May, eight days after Comey's firing. Robert Mueller and his team carried out an investigation into whether the Trump campaign during the lead up to the 2016 election, colluded with Russia to help Trump get elected.

McCabe, fearing that he would not last at the agency given the tumultuousness of the moment, then acted to preserve Comey's memos detailing his conversations with Trump as well as other related documents on the FBI's internal system, thus ensuring that they could not be destroyed, according to CNN.

The move by McCabe and other FBI officials to preserve the probe's evidence came as the White House frequently denied over the course of former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation that Trump had ever seriously considered ordering former Attorney General Jeff Sessions or his successor, William Barr, to end the probe.

Utterly disgusting. The FBI, and the intelligence community at large do not recognize the authority of the president over them. They truly believe they stand in judgment of the president, and set national policy rather than execute it.

they are protected, like Hasan like Kaiser Sose,
as they have been all along.
protected by King Emmet Sullivan who joined in with
them to crucify Gen Flynn who actually deserves his time.

they all should be tried by military courts
and hang this week.

Fbi needs to be completely disbanded

The corruption has destroyed the agency’s little cred it had

My thought was they were switching out memos.

Who knows what memos were made public.

McCabe was totally authorized to act—as a member of the Deep State Coup Plotters.

I feel confident, with 39 working days before the election, Durham will indict all of these felons.

That is one of the lamest excuses for disregarding subpoenas in this affair so far and that’s saying a lot.

These people are brazen criminals but they’re pretty stupid criminals too.

“Where would McCabe get that kind of power?”

He doesn’t, because it would have taken a judge’s order to seal any documents that are within an investigation. All he did was compromise any use of the evidence he hid. It would have turned into hearsay and tossed. You can’t take pieces of a conversation and make it truth. And it could have been compromised at any of the locations it was sent. There is no way to prove it was or wasn’t....it is now hearsay.

#16. Under the Federal Records Preservation Act, McCabe and his band of corrupt FBI officials, will be guilty of violating the act if they hid documents and refuse to hand ALL of them over to the FBI/NARA (National Archives & Records Administration - when they should).

Also, if the documents were classified and taken/send off-site of FBI territory, then that is also a crime.

Every FBI official involved in the Deep State Coup Plot should go to jail for at least 5-10 years, plus more years for lying to any IG involved, Congress, the media, etc.

“...lying to any IG involved, Congress, the media, etc.”

When the sheep are no different than the wolves, there is no right or wrong, there’s just opinionated interpretation. All records belong to the agency they were written by. As long as they can provide proof the records were safeguarded, and stored within the parameters of the guidelines based upon their sensitivity, they are being stored properly. And that determination is that of the people that call the shots and determine that level, not the IG. The IG has to work within those parameters, also. And downgrade, even for disposal or storage, is at the hands of a number of people as designated in section 1.3 of The President’s Executive Order 13526 made during the Bush administration in 2002.

When an order for the reclaim of records is placed, it must be exactly as it is desired. The governing agency can’t just say we want everything from the beginning of time to now of “X” files. They will have to specify. And if they ask for a file that has been stored in the tomb, that may take years to reclaim, maybe never depending on how well it is hidden. But without the exact wording, and requesting an exact document, one they don’t totally know about if at all, then no one is going to release anything to them without a fight. The IG has legalities they must follow, too. And there have been many examples of this in the past.

The battle for the records they really need, if they are even in existence anymore, like the bleaching in Hilary’s emails or something as simple as Obama’s birth certificate in Hawaii, has a lot of people playing “keep away.” And it is legal because intent is not provable as everyone dirty just slams the door in their face with blank looks. If they want it, they can go in and look with proper documentation. But what it actually is, where, and with who’s assistance becomes the detractor rather than the answer. The area of responsibility is possibly immense, or very small. But that isn’t definable, either. Makes your head spin, doesn’t it? It was designed to. And the good guys and bad guys start to blur.
