No double flash. Not even a blinding flash. So, not a nuke. Doesn’t take a nuke to make a mushroom cloud.

Exactly. Ammonium nitrate is benign by itself. It needs to br treated with fuel oil to become explosive. This was most likely 2700 tons of Weapons grade ANFO. That had the explosive power of a small nuke.

You are 100% correct. Same color smoke from an ammonium nitrate fire at a fert plant...

The explosion tho is more reminiscent of the big boom at the rocket fuel factory outside vegas.

On April 16, 1947, a large steel ship filled with a similar amount of ammonium nitrate exploded in Galveston TX. The huge explosion literally blew the ship to bits. It threw gigantic pieces of steel so high, they didn’t rain down for a long minute. The ship’s 1.5 ton anchor landed a mile and half away. More than 500 people were killed and the explosion blew down many buildings.

Ammonia Nitrate - like black powder - is technically a non-explosive as it burns instead of explodes. However, if confined, it can very much act like an explosive due to it’s oxidizing nature. Witness the Texas City disaster where 2,200 tons went up.

So far away was it heard that It’s possible someone in Cyprus, saw the news on their TV, then took the dog for a walk around the block, returned to the house and while re-entering the house, heard the blast.

If stored in unsealed bulk, high humidity can make it condense into a solid and become unusable in bulk, which may have happened here if stored in a bulk storage elevator. Then it just sits becoming more unstable.

LOL! Rhetorical Question: Who stores 2,700 tons of any explosive in a downtown port?

Non Rhetorical Answer: No country where I would want to live or have a extended stay in any major city.

How then do we hear in the several audio tracks of the explosion hundreds of ammo rounds cooking off? Much more than ammonium nitrate in that warehouse in my opinion.
